Thanks for the info guys, I will check Angus out. What about kiting around metro Atlanta? Do you think winds are strong enough? I took my kids to the
park last weekend and surprised them with a cheapo kite from walmart and we (me more then them) had a blast. This was there first time and I havent
flown a kite since I was a kid.

Check Google maps for soccer fields and baseball fields, or parks with wide open spaces. You want an area that doesn't have anything tall upwind of
you. I know there are lots of trees and then the buildings, but there are places.

Kevin is right, Atl wind is gusty, but we make it work. I find that the wind works well enough to have a really good time and fuel the addiction. The
gusty wind here can help train you in such a way that when you get good wind (like on the beach) you have a really great time. The best spots are
soccer fields and baseball fields. We've been flying a spot in Marietta really close to where I live.
The thing I always found most important starting out was wind direction, just as much as speed. There are so many trees and buildings around here that
they can frequently block wind from a particular direction, which can either determine where to go to fly or shut the day down for you if you can't
make it work. I usually don't go out to fly unless the forecast predicts at least 10mph, as the forecasts are frequently a little higher than reality
(at least around here).
I go fly pretty regularly in Marietta (and Knkmanthey joins in a lot too) and would be glad to have you join in if you want to give it a try.
Definitely look up Angus too, he's a great guy, I met him a couple of weeks back on Jekyll Island. There are also a few guys in SC close to Augusta
who are good to know: Pokitetrash, tridude, and phreerider. And there's a guy who goes by Kitedog in Atl, but he usually doesn't kite here in town, he
usually heads to the coast.
Send me an email if you want to meet up some time. (click the little green button below that says "email" or send me a U2U).
Welcome to the funnyfarm and to the addiction!
I'm going to take a nap now

You Atlanta guys still power kiting? I've caught the bug from Youtube videos, but would love to try it out before I buy a $500+ kite. Any sort of meet
up group would be perfect from a social and demo perspective. I'm in Suwanee but will drive.

I may be available Saturday... 1 of 3 locations is good:
Jim R Miller park (North Ga fairgrounds, the far southern end is a big field used as a parking lot during the fair)
Swift Cantrell Park in Kennesaw
White Oak park in Paulding County (Dallas Ga). This is a new location for me, and it pretty awesome.
Are you local or coming from out of town?
Email me, and I'll clear Saturday with Ground Control
I'm going to take a nap now
