Charlize Theron does action roles well, even when they aren't movies.
"Branded" kind of looks like the Matrix with implied/fictional product placement. Kudos for the casting of Max Von Sydow. Big fan of his from 3 Days
of the Condor, Needful Things and a host of other movies.
Have been waiting 2+ years for the US release of Solomon Kane
They filmed it and immediately shipped it overseas because they weren't sure it would fare well in the US market. Idiot decisions made by suits and
bean counters. Awesome casting of James Purefoy in the title role.

Yeah.... Hollywood BS. Given the popularity of movies with similar themes/setting, brains were turned off before decisions were made.
It's the same reasoning that leads to good programs being cancelled while we are subjected to inane parade of "Reality" programming.
More and more On Demand TV.... has commercials that can't be fast forwarded past and the ad agencies still are clueless to the fact that maybe if
commercials weren't so mind-numbingly stupid, people wouldn't want to fast forward through them.
Here's one (long version... they usually play the short version on TV)that I actually like and probably wouldn't fast forward past. Not sure it would
prompt me to the product, but the ad still tickles me.
Sometimes I wonder how many people have actually been prompted to buy something based on an ad versus it being an incredible waste of corporate money.
There are very few items I can think of that I have purchased based on a TV ad.

Depending on the firmware you can change the Region Code for the player either two or three times. Not really a solution because it limits the number
of times you can watch the movie on that particular drive and you are limited to PC viewing. Can always get a multi-region DVD player too... so
that's gives an indication of how effective the whole region coding scheme is.
It just boggles the mind how much money is wasted by the poor, bass-ackwards implementation of what the movie industry was trying to do.
Region coding was developed so that movie companies could dictate the release schedule of various movies in different markets. And because they lacked
the ability to commit to multiple release dates during initial distribution, we are stuck with the Draconian system that we have now. Chances are
that because they have to press different disks for different regions, they actually end of spending more money than they have to.
If they could actually get their act together enough to be able to determine release dates for all regions during initial distribution they could have
gone with a much saner scheme (even though they would still have to have seperate pressings for NTSC and PAL).
However, as far as region coding goes though they could have done something like this:
Each DVD disc gets encoded with all 6 DVD regions and their respective release dates.
All DVD players are coded with a Region and includes a radio controlled clock chip.
When you attempt to play a disc, the player retrieves the time stamp associated with the Region the player is coded for and compares it against
the date from the clock chip. If the clock says it is after the retrieved date, the disc plays.
When all the dates have been past than the disc essentially acts like a Region 0 (everywhere) disc and can be played anywhere.
The studios get to enforce their release schedules and consumers don't get held hostage if they decide to buy a DVD from elsewhere (as long as
it is NTSC/PAL compatible with their player). Studios also don't have to guess how many discs to press for different regions, since each one carries
the release date information for all Regions.

Commercial are completely wasted on me. There is now way I am going to think about vodka when I remember this add. I am going to think about the girl
with the white lipstick (because I liked her snarl in the beginning, a bit scary but you know) And droid grey hounds.
And about the dogs. If that one fell in the middle and was able to get back up and catch up with the others than why didn't it keep going and win by
a couple of lengths? Like I said adds are wasted on me. They just irritate me!! That's why I don't often watch TV.
