Amazon shipping FTW?

:puzzled:

Was cruising around looking for short john wetsuit ...

wetsuitwearhouse.com didn't have my size so I googled "hyperflex cyclone short john 3XL" and got a link to a site that would sell overseas but had a funny system of charging a random amount to your credit card, you'd check your account online (not possible here  ), reply to them to confirm the details. Not gonna happen.

Went to the second link - Amazon.com. Huh, it's somehow via the same site as that one with the funny credit card system. Psch, bet they won't ship cos of some dumb reason but wait what - $12 shipping? WTH?!?

So I ordered the suit. And it's on its way ... for $12 shipping, 8 to 14 days. Why am I paying $40, $50, $60 or more for less products?!?!

Hmm ... never thought I'd be buying wetsuits from what I see as a book store!

Amazon is great. I have a prime account with them. You pay $85 a year and all item listed as prime is free shipping. It's not slow shipping either, I get everything in 2 days.

Anyone can sell anything through Amazon, but you will have to negotiate a price deal with them and meet their business criteria. Not bad for Amazon:lol:, not so good for some business.:flaming:
The consumer makes out rather well, glad you got a great deal. Hope the suit fits.(if it doesn't the return will ether piss you off to no end or make the company go broke.)

amazon is incredible. The digital reinvention of the birth of the supermarket
I can't tell you how often I'm pleased

How our courtship began
me: "ARRH I hate barnes and noble! They never have what I read about on wikipedia"
Amazon: "why hello daniel, we have many rare/out of print products at competitive prices with almost no shipping"
ntt
How it continued
Me: I need _____ amazon, do you have _______ ?
Amazon: why of course I have ______ daniel, once again at competitive prices with an emotional security you can count on.

Most recently I went prime, you cannot beat a book shipping on a sunday, and getting there monday.

My only beef with amazon is the product recommendation pages, it's like a mishmash of viewing history and purchases. Very hit and miss. I've seen places like backcountry.com hit me on the mark with every single ad, why not amazon?

the one thing I recommend when buying on amazon is to double check the expected shipping time. Most things I have bought were delivered very quickly but I did not pay close attention one time and it stated the shipping time to be 6-8 weeks. It shows it in stock but expected day to ship is 6-8 weeks away. I noticed it right after I submitted the order. It was nothing I needed right away so I just waited it out. I think it arrived 2 weeks later so it was ahead of schedule. But since then I have paid close attention to that and I have seen it again on items. So just pay close attention to expected shipping date and not actually shipping time.

I got the Kindle Fire for the wife and got Prime with the warranty. Not a bad deal, most of the stuff I get is free shipping or 2.99 for next day delivery. Just don't order it Friday night, next day delivery means late Monday.

Looked into selling kites through them, I give away to much as it is, they would rob me blind, especially if there was a problem.

Took forever to get the wife her Kindle too ... but it was back-ordered.

If the size of the 'suit is the same as the one I have now, it'll be fine.

Have had a few issues finding actual books - filtering out the kooks who wont ship overseas is a PITA, especially for "rare" books.

I got Prime account too .... I use Amazon a lot since there is so many unique items that can be at my door next day for 3.99.... or for free 2 day later ..... and I ship directly to my clients houses when working on home automatization and A/V system projects ..... Pricing is competitive and love reviews .... you can find a lot info that is not in product description when reading what buyers have to say .....
I order 6 products on Sat evening ... 4 arrive Monday and 2 day later .... saves a lot time for me when you think that I need to drive to 3 different stores to get those items ....

Aw, and they were doing so well ...

... got a "tried to deliver but you were out notice" when I got home 5 minutes ago. Called them up and they were like "Sorry we can't redeliver tonight. Tomorrow? You must be joking, we only work 9 to 5! How about Saturday or Sunday?"
"Well I'll only be home until 12 on Saturday."
"What about Sunday?"
"No idea what my plans are but I'm not waiting around all day for you wankers to turn up." which dick on the phone thought was funny.

WHAT THE #@%$#! USE is a courier company that only does office hours?!?!

DHL you are useless MORONS and this is not the first time you've screwed me but at least THIS time I didn't pay for 2 day super-expensive international shipping and get it in 4 days cos you can't be buggered doing your job properly.

DHL = Dispatch Handled Lethargically

I think better than 95% of my kite related deliveries were made to my office. Didn't have to worry about signing for it or it being left out in the weather or all the other normal concerns.

When I worked in Texas, the the depots for DHL, FedEx, and UPS were all located next to each other (just outside the airport) within a short distance from me. If I got a "Tried to Deliver" slip, I just called them up and told them I would be there in 10 or 15 minutes to pick up my package. They might have only made residential deliveries until 5 or 6, but the depot was open until 8:00pm or 9:00pm.

Hope you get your package soon.

ATB,
Sam

Not much point giving them an address - I may as well pay for shipping then swim the Pacific and pick it up myself  Why do they take money and contract for delivery to residential addresses then only deliver when normal working people are ... not at home?

I'm going to start a company for commercial delivery and only deliver when the businesses are closed :ticking:

It'll be here Saturday morning - assuming I don't have other things to do then ... perhaps I should just cancel my weekend plans to suit DHL

I have packages normally delivered to where I worked. And still do!! Shipping is less and always some one there to sign for it. They call me to tell me it is there and I have a bonus reason to go visit all the knuckleheads I worked with!!

DHL and other couriers aren't the only ones the adhere to this faulty logic. Almost every service based business has hours that conflict with a majority of their market who is also at their own job. Not sure how it is over there, but a majority of auto shops close while there customers are still at work or trying to get home. Some dealerships have extended service hours but not a whole lot.

Post office doesn't. They'll deliver it up to 9pm at your residence - in case you work at different locations during the day and couldn't trust the people in the offices at any of the locations to organize a piss-up in a brewery.

Other stores are usually open till 8pm or later. And all weekend, even little shops - but they do have the odd habit of closing on Tuesdays.

Kami even here Tuesdays are the slowest day. Good prices at movies and specials at restaurants are always better on Tuesdays. Don't know why. Just the way it is.
