Need a smaller board

The recent "Looking for a bigger board" thread got me thinking about the smaller side of my kiteboard rack. I know I need something smaller but have no idea what I should be considering.

The two things I've learned that I do NOT like:
- splashing in the face!
- dark coloured surfaces (hard to see when trying to relocate after a fail)

Other than that I know nothing about the why's and hows of the bard shapes, widths, lengths etc in the smaller spectrum. Can anyone enlighten me so I can make an informed decision? Sadly "try before you buy" isn't an option for me now or in the near future.

I don't think I'm ready for a nuclear wind, wave shredding postage stamp but could use something to take me a step closer in that direction.
