I have an E or S series that's probably about 4-5 years old and still going strong.
Originally put off of Sony due to DRM/SoundStage software, but that went by the wayside and left behind a pretty good player.
When Sony started including some players with touchscreens they were smart enough to leave edge-mounted tactile/physicals controls that could be
operated without looking at the player or having to take it out of any carrier you might use for it.
I used to be down on Sony for a long time due to reliabilitly, and because there was the feeling they didn't make things as good as they used to (I
still have a set of SRS-100 speakers from the late '80s that are still in use and have outlived a lot of other audio products).
With the release of there MP3 players of 4-5 years ago, they were back on the road of doing things right again.
The only nit that I have is that the OFF button is more of a Standby button, that Sleeps the device and then turns it off completely if you don't use
it for awhile. This is to reduce startup time and I suspect some other players do the same. This isn't an issue unless you are constantly turning
the player off and turning it back on before it full shutsdown, as it eats into the battery life a bit to be in standby. Even with heavy use and
repeated on-off cycles, it's still generally good for 2+ days between charges.
