Virginia/DC
Hey all,
I was down in Chantilly VA for a wedding and did some traveling around and kept seeing huge fields all over the place. Mostly schools or other sports
fields. Unfortunately no kites with me on this trip but it seems that there might be some good venues. Not the beach but you take what you can get.
Today we drove out to Manassus battlefield and it got me thinking............I wonder?

MNBP is part of the National Park Service and one of the stated mandates is:
"The LWCF (Land & Water Conservation Fund) Program provides matching grants to States and local governments for the
acquisition and development of public outdoor recreation areas and facilities (as well as funding for shared federal land acquisition and conservation
strategies). The program is intended to create and maintain a nationwide legacy of high quality recreation areas and facilities and to stimulate
non-federal investments in the protection and maintenance of recreation resources across the United States."
It's going to be a matter of what they deem as "recreation."
It's amazing how much land gets sucked up by the government in one form or another and then has a giant glass dome clamped down on it.
ATB,
Sam

Never tried those fields. Most have trees at the borders, or other obstacles to prevent clean wind generation. Some might work. Find someone and ask,
if you can. I had day where I found a field, had my gear, and just went for it. Nobody there, had a great time. Still risky though, you never know
who is going to show up and try to shoo you off. I know a few guys who kite around the Washington Monument in DC. They get kicked off all the time,
but they plead ignorance, and come back a couple days later (or the next weekend).

i learned through experience that usually it is better to ask for forgiveness than beg for permission
in virginia you learn to use what you have to work with
the wind sucks most of the time, its turbulent everywhere
I have hound some possible spots near me but i still need to look into them
unless you go out west you will valways have trees and obstacles. you justy have to learn to work around them
