I think that's under-kill  It's not THAT big of a transition...!

If you want to start gently... figure out what will be a small-sized kite for your weight and wind conditions ie. a high-wind kite for you, and buy one of those. Then fly it in light winds.

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

Ocean is launching a new kite called the Prodigy, a 3 strut kite that starts at 3m then goes up to 14m, priced in a different (lower) range than their other kites. I don't think going with the 2m SLE trainer is the way to go to gently transition into depower. When you start with a small depowerable you are really only teaching yourself how to steer and fly a kite - all of the characteristics are a little different than you might expect. A small kite means you need to fly it higher winds and then it will be rocketing around - the range of power to depower isn't as nice as flying a small-med sized kite in comfortable steady breeze and playing with the power range - it won't seem quite as rushed as the 2m kite.
That being said the Prodigy does look to be a better kite than the 2m SLE trainer but like Kami said I'd go bigger - depends where you are and what winds as to what size would be suitable.

I agree with the above. Get a high wind kite like a 5-8m or a medium wind kite like a 9-12 depending on your size and local conditions. Insert them here____ and ____ then we can help you figure it out.
Then fly them in the low end of the recommended ranges to get familiar with how they fly.

If you fly a depower in too low of wind it will stall when you sheet in. You won't get a feel for what depower really is like. Even at the bottom of the wind range this can happen. Depower really shines once you get moving then you can adjust the power or speed by sheeting in or out.

Wow. Thanks for all the input. I will do more study based upon all of your suggestions. Would have replied sooner but was in the Big Easy for a family reunion.

I've got a Cabrinha Nitro 12m thats like new with a brand new bar & line set still in the bag and I just don't have the Ba@@s to put it in the air yet!

SO... I THOUGHT a transition into it would be the right thing to do.

The Nitro might be OK once my skill set gets better but till then I think i'll keep it in the bag till I grow a set or do a trade.

Anyone out there want to do some kind of a deal??? for a medium size de-power I can learn with?
