Kayak and kite flying

I read one thread that said it was hard to fly a kite and use a kayak, but the internet has some limited info that says it is possible (but unclear).

I would love to take a two person kayak out on the lake and use my kite as traction, but I doubt it is possible to do other than down wind only.

Can anyone tell me if I should stop looking or if it is something I should keep looking into?

Or should I just think about getting good on the board and tow a kayak with me?

You have to have a way to steer it and edge against the wind. Balance would be as hard or harder than a kite bike (2 wheels).

Not 100% about that.... as stall speed would not having you doing the Monty Python tip over as you would on a kite bike.

A kayak with an outrigger kit would be even better.

However, you might be better off with a larger rudder like the Hobie HP to be able to properly edge.

I have two of these .And they can pull ... You can adjust a ring between the bridles to make it tack to one side of the window ,or orther too. That could be very benificial. They also have one like this but even bigger. Looking for these two fishing kites is how I discovered "traction kiting" . It was love at first sight.:wee::wee::wee:
Then there is http://www.pacificaction.com/ I like this.:ninja:

There's some very nice youtube videos of kayak sailing - where they have a small sail rigged up on the front of the kayak that they can easily deploy. I notice they often brace with the paddle while under way. A small Nasa wing hooked straight to a bar could be feasible....?

Jeff's done some really nice vids from around Tasmania...

When I first started kiting I heard rumors of a guy kiting from California to Hawaii. I thought that was kinda cool. It took like a week and he used a single line sled with a kayak. The kayak had different places to tie the kite on so it could pull him at different angles to the wind.

indigo, on the balance thing, I was imagining being well powered when mentioning the kite bike. I've never ridden either btw.

I have kayaked and I have a kitebike. If you don't have a rudder on the front as well as the back, you can't hold an edge. I am getting a fishing kayak soon,so I have been researchin'. And I personally am looking at the Pacific Action sail. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=x...

We are going on a one week trip to Vermont and one reason we are going there is because there is amazing flat water kayaking ( as I am limited now on my activities). Sandy was wondering if I should bring my 13 guerrilla to pull the kayak so we can race the kids in theirs!!:wee: I'm bringing it on the principle that I have permission to do so:wee:!!:lol:.

I guess I wasn't clear at all. I have kayaks and we go every chance we get (flatwater). I've just never flown a kite in one. I've never been in the presence of a kite bike.

I see what you're saying WG about the front rudder. a back rudder would constantly have you pointing downwind.
