Ive been flying for around 5 years, and been on the land-board for close to 2 (although ive not spent many hours on the board) and i still haven't got a helmet.

I know its bad, and im going to get one ASAP. questions for you guys:
what style helmet do you use / recommend ? full face, of the normal skate style.

im thinking ill get a 'normal' skate style, mainly because of money.

Thoughts ?

Full face would be nice but I use a standard ski helmet as I had that before I started landboarding. Skate style should be fine.

I use a full face downhill ski helmet. It is extremely lightweight and for the most part not really hot on summer days. Full face gives you more protection but skate style is fine too. (most important is that you are wearing one) If you get a ski helmet go purchase one now while they are on sale before season. I got a 200.00 helmet for 1/2 off.

Just got a six six one dirt lid. maybe when/ if i progress to tricks, and more air time ill get a full face one.

Full face for ATB all the way. the first time you realize it's the helmet skidding across the turf and your mouth ain't full of dirt, it's paid for itself.

This is one of those questions that brings up interesting opinions as to the best or right helmet.
I am going to throw in my opinion as well as the others.
I have used all types of helmets as most of the sports and activities I was in required or recommended one.
Motorcycle helmet- brain cap, 1/2, 3/4, full face, and flip front. all are OK but heavy.
Dirt Bike helmet- solid full face, 3/4 with plastic chin and visor. lite weight but limited side view.
Skate, board helmet- basic 1/2 coverage. lite weight, cool colors, plastic and washable.
Bicycle helmet- more or less the same as the skate/board helmet but with air fins.
Snow, Blokart helmet- basically a short version of a 3/4 with ear covers and not as heavy as the MC style.

I wore the full face dirt bike style until the chin guard got pushed into my chest, I used the skate/board style after that. Now my choice is the Blokart Helmet, much better for all aspects of the reason why I don't want to wear one, but I need to.

As long as it covers your brain and you wear it, it will work.

I have a GS downhill ski helmet (full face) made by Boeri..I couldn't be happier with it (2nd one). They are extremely light weight, have a lot of vents that you can open and close and a visor (removable). It's probably close to a very high end BMX helmet. Has a strap that holds a pair of goggles in place too.
You can look into a Troy Lee Design...that is the biking industrys' for BMX/motorcross. They are usually a little heavier and better built then your standard bike helmet but less then a reg. motorcycle helmet.
If you can, try to go somewhere where you can try them on. Much harder to purchase a helmet on-line,

Just a FYI there is a website called Clymb that has sales for limited times on different types of outdoor gear, clothes, shoes etc. and change items daily. I bought my bern hardhat / helmet from the site for something like 60% off retail. I did have to wait a bit for it to ship though.

Unfortunately i had to send the sixsixone helmet back. Apparently i have a head that is too big for 'one size fits all' helmets ! (lots of brains !! ) i went into the local water-sports shop, they had a good one, but was too much for me.
