Swapping kite bags to sell, how much lost value?

I'm planning on selling the 5m riot I just got, and keeping my sami II 5m (which was a present, and I love :) )

The riot comes with a nicer bag, with more support and pockets compared to the Sami, whish is by no means a bad bag.

How much value will be lost, roughly, if I sell the riot with the Sami bag ?
Thanks
Tim

I put zero value on a kitebag, but that's just me. Maybe it's that all of mine are unimpressive? Max I would let it affect my sale price would be 50$....

Any one looking to buy is looking to fly and you can't fly the bag. Don't worry about it, keep the bag that suits your needs.

nahh.... thats just wrong.... particularly if the model names on the bag. keep it proper and if you dont like your bag look in the attic or closet for somthing you prefer....... sell it correctly.

I was thinking along the same lines as ab, you could just find a bag you like at a sporting goods store, and put aside the original bag to go with the kite if you re-sell. Maybe I'm just a little OCD...

Split feelings. If I were a buyer I would definitely over look the bag if the kite was what I definitely wanted, but to some I could see the bag being a question on price. The bag was designed to fit well with that kite, but I think the most it would be worth is $50 like mentioned above. Think it would be great if manufactures were to offer bags for sale seperate if you wanted an extra one or the zippers in yours were to break.

It all would depend on how good a deal the kite was. If it was the kite I'm after and the price is right the bag means nothing. If I was on the fence about the whole deal hearing the bag doesn't match would be a red flag !

I try and keep my whole kit together. That includes manual, Patch kits etc. that come with the stock item. I think it shows I value my gear on resale. Swapping bags might give the impression you don't care enough about your gear to keep track of the bags?

      The Ozone Riot Bag

is essentialy a Ozone V24 City Backpack

except the latter includes a padded laptop sleeve.

The V24 City Back goes for about $69. Subtract $20 for the laptop sleeve, which brings you down to $49 minus whatever you want to take off for used/wear state.

The original Samurai bag (left) was upgraded to a V24 style bag with the second generation Samurai II kite (right).

I suspect the main reason is because outside of sling tipe bags (PKD Brooza, Combat), manufacturers badge the he|| out of backs with the kite names and size. They would take a financial beating on stocking the bags alone if they found themselves with an overrun.

Broken zippers come in a several of flavors:
      1. bent/broken zipper pulls
      2. damaged/worn slider
      3. Damaged teeth
      4. stitched attaching zipper tape to pack cloth coming undone.

    Repairs can are fairly painless...
    1. If the pull is still hanging on, use a pair of diagonal cutters or Dremel (carefully) to remove and replace with gutted paracord or Zipper Fixer pull.
    2. Remove slider, measure zipper teeth size and replace with appropriate sized Fixnzip.
    3. Have entire zipper replaced either DIY or at a local store specializing in pack/tent repair store or a tailor that is used to working with tech fabrics.
    4. Either resew or have it done professionally by service as above.

ATB,
Sam

Many do. I copped a Slingshot kite bag from their closeouts for 20$. It's big, big enough to cram a 15 inflato into.

I would think hard about buying a kite without the matching bag, particularly if I can't inspect before buying. Purely because it indicates that the kite hasn't been looked after properly.

Yeah, okay. I think I'll keep the kites in their original bags, if that is the general feeling.
Like you say, I can buy a small after market walking bag or something if I feel the need to.

I think it could put a buyer off, and it would always be in the back of my mind that my Sami was in a bag with riot written on it :/ lol

I've bought and sold kites without a bag or in a wrong bag. Never affected me selling a kite or buying one. Goes along with kite color. I might admire or enjoy looking at a kite in a particular color scheme but bags and colors are all forgotten when the kite is doing its thing for you.

I would say $25 for the bother of having mis-mathed stuff.
But, the kite obviously must fit really well in the bag your passing on...otherwise its a no-go.

that being said, if it were me, I would just keep the bags to the kites and find another if I really needed.

Ditto.

Though I would prefer to buy a matched bag, as long as you are up front with the buyer and the kite fits well, I don't really care. I have bought and sold kites with mismatched bags and I own a kite with a phenomenal backpack bag matched by the kite maker and while the kite is the bomb and the bag is the bomb, the kite does not fit well in the bag at all. So the awesome bag hangs in my basement full of kites I don't fly mutch and the kite is in a bag made by another kite maker but it fits much better. As said above, once the kite is in the sky, I don't care what the bag on my back or at basecamp looks like or says. Just be honest in how you represent the sale and keep what makes you happy. Take $5 - 20 off if it makes you feel better.
