replacing depower / speed / mixer line?
I'm looking at replacing the mixer line in the speed system on my Eskimo (not the depower line on the bar side but the depower line through the mixer
system on the kite side. Thinking of using 7/64" hollow braid amsteel so I can easily splice the loops in place. Think that will work or will the pulleys chew it up fast. Any recommendations for other line
material?
Also, anyone know what FS uses (and where I can buy thin, strong, wear resistant line) for the sliding wingtip lines (the lines at the wingtips that
slide through metal rings as the kite turns? If I'm replacing my mixer lines I might was well do those too.

Liros for the ring lines... notorious for shrinking IIRC. Check the line plan for the kite on flysurfer.com... it'll say something like DC100 which is
the kind of line - from Liros
Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

B,
7/64 amsteel works well. I used it to make spare parts/mixer lines a on my Pulse. You can order the spectra line from Fixmykite if you decide to go
that way. Good luck and either or to answer your question................:wow:

Does the "100" in the DC100 stand for pounds or kilos? That can't just be pure spectra, can it? Wouldn't that melt when sliding through the ring?
Anyone know of an available alternative to Liros in the States?
Tridude, are you saying to just use the bridle line at fixmykite for the ring line?

i am in same replacement phase on pulse 2, i like the Riley pulleys . and only about less $ with a brass wheel. PL i think had same. gonna do my
pulse with those. the liros stuff is hard to choose , esp. for the ring lines. definitely need to get spares!
the bridle breakdown is much quicker than a bladder repair. , when i'm working on tubes makes feel like i'm working on blow up toys, kinda phunny
to me.

Once again using the PKF for research & tips
Stretched my ringlines and one side broke.
Found LIROS Ropes, the "DC" series product site description:

LIROS DCDC000 Dyneema®-Competition line
• easy to splice
• outstanding, precise control of kite
• controlled manoeuvres
• lines are very consistent in length even after high loading
• LIROS-Heat-Stretch-System
Cover = Dyneema
Core = keine Angabe
(German for not specified = there is no core)
Construction Material = Dyneema SK 75

So ringlines are just standard kite line Dyneema or Spectra :puzzled:
I thought maybe Qpower lines might be more durable, but the sheath is made of spectra also, so it would wear the same.

"...flight line and bridle lines made out of Dyneema or Spectra...Practically speaking for the consumer, they are the same thing..."
"...Q-PowerLine features a spectra core surrounded by a braided spectra sheath..."

Did I miss something here?
If not I'm planning to use some 500# flying lines as ring-lines.
Then check frequently and stretch frequently.

I have no idea to answer your question
but your plan sounds solid to me. It seems logical that you could use flying line without issue.
question, is amsteel, dyneema, and spectra all the same material using a different braid?

Amsteel is a particular company's (Samson) version of a braided Dyneema rope. Dyneema and Spectra are two different types of very similar
Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene. Dyneema, or Spectra can both have multiple braids. The only thing special about Amsteel is that Samson uses
a coating to increase casing friction (so that splices hold better). Certainly a good rope, not the only usable one around.
Some people claim Dyneema has less stretch than Spectra. I doubt there has been significant enough data to really prove this. Dyneema (the fiber) is
made by a company named DSM out of the netherlands. Spectra i believe is made by Honeywell.
The weaves are established by the particular company after they buy the fiber from the previously mentioned fiber manufacturers and the world is the
limit from there.
Kevlar is the same chemical makeup as Dyneema or Spectra.
