Right now the weather report is looking good for the weekend may even be some good wind.I'm planning on arriving Fri. mid. day,is anyone else going to
be there then?To be safe I don't want to be out buggying on my own.
On google sattelite view there is a road that goes in about 21 miles from Fields. Is this where we access the lakebed?

My other half and I will be there early am friday. The first access is gated (private,) the next is about 200 yards farther down. Come very
prepared for extreme camping- this place does not forgive mistakes or poor planning. Bring whatever you think you may need, including a little extra
fuel if possible as Fields station can be an unreliable source.
Aim low. Reach your goals, and avoid disappointment.

I wish, waaaay too much homework to go that far all weekend! I'd love to ride my new MG CrooZer out on the playa though!! I'll have to wait till
next Summer to go, unfortunately. Looks like Spring is a bad time to go? And it gets into the early 20's at night during the Winter . Too cold for me!
Jeff, I just sent you an email.....hope you get it before you leave! Oh well if not I guess.

took the pic with my Sony dsc-hx9v, has all kinds of cool stuff I didnt know it had till this weekend.
I heard there was a few new PB's and the surface is unbelievable, fast, softer than Ivanpah, a bit dustier, and you can drive across the lake bed.
Just remember, "dont buggy any farther than you want to walk back if the wind dies, 2 hours and 6 miles only gets you half way.:wow: If it wasn't for
the closeness of the surrounding mountains, it would be almost impossible to figure out were base camp is, or was, or it should be, no wait - isn't it
over there, I thought it was.......,OH OH, looks like it's going to get dark soon.
I will have to move Alvord to the number 1 spot on my list for best buggy place.

I'm just back from Alvord. It's 14 hours driving each way from Vancouver B.C. and was well worth the drive. We had good wind all 3 days and over 60
square miles of lakebed to buggy on.
Jeff,Burton,Mike and Family it was great hanging with you guys all weekend. Good to see Josh and Ce Ce there also.Mike & Jeff you guys missed a
great south wind yesterday.
I will post a few pics and some video later.

@ bugeyed, I can’t thank you enough for sticking with me and helping me figure some things out as we crossed to the other side of the playa, you must
have felt like a cowboy rounding up the lost calf…LOL! I logged nearly 56 miles so you must have done at least twice that having to back track to
round me up..LOL!
@ heliboy, we almost made it over to you on the other side but they crossed over to the southeast side then we headed north but the wind was dropping
so we headed back, it was a lot of work tacking back up wind underpowered well and maybe a little under skilled..
I had a great time riding with everyone, I can’t wait to go back.
I will post a vid soon as well

Nice. Not bad for a bill mounted camera. The front tire kicked up a bit of dust
for a bit, I can even taste it.
Did you try out Burtons Promo? Was thinking all the way home on someway to get it with out telling her, er, anyone.:embarrased: Maybe if it was
yellow.
Didnt know how good the wind was until I turned off Fields-Denio RD at Steens Hwy for Burns, I should have stayed another day. (Buy the way, 55mph all
the way to hwy 78, was nothing like coming in from Fields.)
Long, strait runs from one side to the other, and back. Out and back, out and back, out and back. When is the next trip to Alvord?:bigok: GP will
never be the same. If at all.
Yep, we all should have stayed another day.
At least you ended the weekend with some great runs. Until you go again, you can reminisce with all the videos you took. Just dont clean the kite,
then you can spread the dust all over the place and feel like you just left the playa.(I dont think I will ever get all the dust out of my Contour
camera).
Great Weather, Awesome sunrises, way to many stars, Great people, very good BBQ, (the home cooked meals was ever so wonderful, but not even close to
as greatly appreciated as the ride back), 2 Hour long runs, Can't head strait back to camp cause your not sure where it is, and the most surreal
mountains that start at the edge of the lake bed and go almost strait up to the tips and they seam to hold on to the clouds for the best visual
effects, fresh spring water, naked girl hot springs,(or so we were told). Hmmmmmmmmmmm, (I cant whistle ) when can I make the trip again?
Hmmmmmm, still cant whistle, but I can sing, :singing: :singing: :singing: :singing: :singing: :singing: :singing: :singing: :singing: :singing:
:singing: :singing: :D
thanks everyone, you helped make a great trip even better.
