I've seen people as young as 13 in competition though I don't know what age they started. Regarding kites, I suggest trying out a few different sizes and see what works best for you with your weight and local wind conditions in mind. The young kitesurfers I've known maxed out on 9 meter tubes in 15+ mph wind.

Be cool, wear a helmet and light floatation.

Hi,

I'm fourteen and I first was introduced to kiteboarding when I was twelve. I flew a 2m trainer kite for about a year then got a Peter Lynn ARC630. When I got bigger I got a Peter Lynn 13m venom and now I am doing all sorts of tricks. There is no actual age you should start kiting, whenever you feel comfortable is best.

I believe the world, female kite champs have been about 13 years old. It's not too early, if you realize that it can kill you. Be smart. Take lessons. You can get hurt - badly. Follow you instructors guidance. Don't take unnecessary chances. Think of it as becoming an adult early by doing it all correctly. You'll rock before you're 18.
