just picked one up,

its my first kite, went to fly it today (just a land session in a field), it kicked my ass not bad but it handled me, I do plan to take a lesson but maybe next month,

anyways should I continue trying to learn on this, or is it worth it get something smaller/make a much of a difference learning on something smaller? like a 2-3m

A 3m trainer is the way to go ! ALWAYS IS when starting out !

Odds are Hooj that you will destroy a blimp learning on land ?
