The long weekend is busier all around with the last minute people hitting the beach before school.
The lastweek end is easier on car traffic and a little more relaxing on buggy runs.

The amount of buggy folks stays about the same from start to finish.

You can drive on the beach... Best access is at mile post 13 - Sunset beach road. If the access is fluffy, you will need 4x4. normally we have been able to get 32 ft coaches on and off the beach no problem.

No camping on the beach - there is an RV park just off the sunset beach access road.

The beach is half way between astoria and seaside. You can park at the COstco parking lot just south of astoria if you can't find RV places that are open.

We may have free access for a couple of rigs at a friend of mines house 3 miles from the beach.

I'll need to confirm that option is still open this year.

We had close to 75 + come last year.

contact me at mark@quadlinekites.com for quicker replies.

I have been in and out of the Dr. offices the last three weeks, so I haven't been able to check the forum as often as I should.

You can visit the SOBB website at:
http://quadlinekites.com/sobb/index.html

Tnx,
Mark

The Sobb's a must, as far as I know, the SOBB buggy camp is a go, you should be able to drive the RV on the beach no problem, I got around fine in july no problem with a VW Rabbit loated to the hilt, just don't drive in the soft stuff by the dunes.

The campground near the beach is good, ask for a spot overlooking the lake or be subject to a full on Hoe-down though.

I'm heading down with 3-6 other guys from the Vancouver BC area, should have a head count soon. Be good to meet more buggiers.

[*] posted on 20-8-2006 at 09:13 AM

oh yeah, it does get pretty busy that weekend and it can make buggy'n more challenging. But the beach is pretty big so it's usually not much of a problem (just more spectators:) If you do want to avoid that though not a bad idea of coming a bit later. However, there are lot of other things to check out in the area as well. You might find the town of Seaside to remind you a little bit of Santa Cruz. At least what I think of Santa Cruz 40 yrs ago. Oh my gawd, has it been THAT long? The whole area though is pretty nice to check out though. So just another thought for ya.

Here is a site for the tides in the area http://tbone.biol.sc.edu/tide/tideshow.cgi?site=Columbia+Riv...

p.s. Bring jackets. It is a bit cooler up here in the great NW that we are use to, but for those thinner blooded people from warmer climates, beware.. :frog:

correction to my link on that last post:

http://tbone.biol.sc.edu/tide/tideshow.cgi

Click on west coast then scroll down to Columbia River entrance (N. Jetty) It's a few pgs down and is near the end of the Washington sites, close to the Oregon locations.

The beach is something like 12 miles long and you can drive down it, when we were there in July, you just cruised down the beach until you found a quite spot, usually about 1 mile to the right when you hit the beach was good.

I'll be down for the long weekend, getting in some time early sat, leaving tues before dinner, looks like at least 3 others comming down with me.
