Strap lenghts for power kites


Hi everybody, I'm a beginner.

I've bought two powerfoil kites on web, they are 2.7m and 4m, I tried to fly them at wind 8-12 m/sec. and found a problem in strap, the left side straps & right side straps have different lenght, can anyone please tell me a precise strap lenghts for both kites?

I will try to adjust the lines to make the kites fly better, thank you very much.

what do you mean by straps? are these 4 line kites? or 2 lines?

It sounds like your lines are un-even...

is this the problem?

If the straps are indeed different lenghts, 2 options,

1) get matching straps, shouldn't be dealing with that sort of thing on a new kite, The store you got it from should have no problem sorting you out.

2) instead of shortening lines, get a little bit of bridal material, make sure it's rated at least the same as your flying lines and make up an extension for the shorter one. You don't want to be tying knots in your flying lines to shorten them. It'll weaken the knots, What I do in a pinch is make up an extension, it has a loop on one end to larks head to the handle, then a knot on the other to larks head the flying lines on.

I usually have a couple of these made up in the kitebag, I keep them about 6-8" long, with a knot every 2" or so. They're great for tinkering with kites when you get one that the brake lines are too tight. Just make sure the knots on both sides are the same distance from the larks head end.

Pablo,
Your solution is a very good one.

However... Why have a series of knots on the extension?
Pre-tied knots are random.
Adjustments are rarely so evenly divided.

Tying all those knots uses up a good quantity of line.

Why not tie just one knot - anywhere along the line - and eliminate the snag-causing potential of multiple knots?

As the knot on the extension is not being pulled tight, but stopping the larS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s-head on the flying line, it is not difficult at all to loosen it and slide it along to the appropriate length.

Just a refinement of your suggestion.

I hate dangly-bits.

They seem to get caught up at the most inappropriate moments.
