Can you I.D this New Tech kite?

I'm looking at a used kite for sale, seller ID's it as a 10 foot (so I'm guessing a 3m or 3.2m) New Tech quad line kite.

He's out of state so this would be a remote purchase for me.

On New Tech's website, I can't match up the color pattern with anything they currently manufacture.

NT Link:

Anyone have an educated guess on year or model and performance flying style?

hi, my name is Dave, and I'm a Windy Heap

This is my first post on PKF, long time lurker/reader/ trying to learn, totally new to foils, but many years of twin line stunt and quad line Rev Kites under my flying belt.

thanks for any help naming/describing this kite.

It doesn't look like any New Tech kites that I have ever seen. It kind of looks like an older Montana panel layout, but the Montana's didn't have the spectrum type colors going through the middle of the sail.

If it is a New Tech kite, it will be proudly marked as such with their logo's and all. The only way it would not be is if it happened to be a demo or pre-production model, but to my knowledge New Tech did not have any of these. Another problems is that New Tech and all major manufacturers will list the kites in their Square Meter size, not 10' wingspans.

The handles also look like HQ handles, which would throw up another red flag. The bag also doesn't appear to have any legible markings or logo's on it.

I would be cautious unless the seller can provide you with actual photo's and proof that it is indeed what he is claiming it to be.

As Cheezy has mentioned, most all of the users on this forum are legitimate and will treat you right. I don't know what your price range is but I am sure you can find something comparable on this forum from someone who will not be trying to pull a fast one on ya.

Money spent for a bogus product is money wasted. You may be better off spending a little more for something you are 100% sure of the quality and what it is.

Hope this helps.

Yup, yup, and Yup.

trust me I've been reading/learning/learning/reading/learning more.................sigh...........

almost information overload but I've learned so much for all you guys/gals.

I'm not sold on this deal at all.

It's my first foil.

I've also researched and get good vibes from any 3-4 meter in a Beamer V, Peter Lynns Twister II, the HQ Alpha 3.5.................

Being a bigger guy at 250 pounds, I'm not scared to get some tugging, but also respect the power I'm stepping into....

and yes I've been watching the "for sale" ads here, and don't want the $40 Ebay special..

My pricepoint is the $200-300 range.

this kite about is $100 for sail and lines.

thanks again!

you have to appreciate good customer service! and Yes I'm passing on this deal.

from New Tech.

Hi David,

Ok, so, that kite is a 10ft Thunderfoil Titan. Discontinued in 2009, these sport foils were great for intermediate-expert fliers. Hard pulling, with nice precision, made it an excellent traction kite. Was only discontinued due to the fact that we had a different sport kite designer the next year and were forced to change design owned by previous designer.

Great kite IMO. One thing though, the kite, as manufactured, was not a quad line. However, I do see two sprint winders with line on them in the picture. Which could mean two things. One, the seller has each line on two separate winders, or two, it's been modified to be a quad line. Now that I cannot answer from a simple picture but I'd inquire about it. Retail at the time was approx. $160.

Hope that helps,

I looked through my old catalogs and it is a kite by NTK, am I bad.
It is a 2 liner, from past experience a 2 line kite is a 2 line kite even if it has 4 lines. They were made with 2 and not 4 for a reason.

Beachrights is a shameless guy who is working the system, good kite and seller by the way. There are other good kites for sale, look and find one you are interested in and u2u the owner and see if it is still up for sale. We all have stuff that didnt sell right away.

The New Tech Titan did come with rear bridal attachment points. They could be moded to fly as a four line kite.
As a four line kite these had no (zero) up wind ability. They pulled like a freight train. I would not recommend a titan that has been changed over to a four line configuration. As a four line these kites require constant attention, and can be dangerous in the hands of a beginner buggy pilot.

With that in mind, these were fun kites to use with my sand skis.

The 10' kite, the one I have is in blue color palette and it says on the bag Thunderfoil, but design and bridle layout is quite different from earlier thunderfoils. It exactly matches shape and size of NTK Ballistic 3.6m (I put them one over another on the floor to compare). Has rear bridles connection points. But. The difference is I rode Ballistic on handles and it was good, but when I decided to connect rear bridles to this one it did not only not do any upwind, it increased pull on the edge of the window to significant and set further back making it not rideable at all (unless you would call continuous unmanageable acceleration "riding")
As a dual line kite it's stable and good fun - years ago I took mine on water - looping and 8-ing I got a long cool bellydrag along the shore. Walked back, rode again, repeat.... Fun. Strong solid pull. I felt like a bait at deep sea fishing though.
I got mine for somewhat over a hundred and it was worth it back then. HQ Rush is a better option or a PL but again, price matters as brands would be more expensive.

Whoever the seller was for that kite took a picture of it as a quad, but definitely it won't be a good quad.
