Old depowers. (2005 5m frenzy)
Hey guys,
I haven't posted in a while, hope you're all well!
I know there is often a lot of discussion on the old depowerable kites.
I'm vaguely in the market for a high wind kite to replace my 3m, and become what will be my highest wind kite, untill winds get to a speed low enough
to use my 5m FB.
There's a chance of a 2005 ozone frenzy 5m. This would be my first depower.
I guess I have a fairly simple question: is the kite still a good one, even though it's getting on a fair bit now! I think wind range wise it will be
good (seller said 18- 30+) which is what i'm after pretty much.
How quickly would I outgrow this kite?
Also a sneaky question on the side, what is a good price range for this kite ? He put it up at £220 (350USD), but lots of people said that's way over
priced, so now he's looking for offers. (i'm in the UK)
Thanks guys,
Tim

As long as it's been treated well, age isn't much of an issue. I would give the bridle a close examination, as well as the kite... look for fraying on
seams/attachment points.. Frenzy is a great kite, even the old ones.
I would doubt you would outgrow this kite as far as skills..you would only replace it with new tech...
I personally would offer 200-250 if the sail was in decent shape without major patches, and no bridle lines besides pulley lines showing frays....
Good luck and have fun!

Yes , I was going to suggest $250 RTF with no damage and little use. It is a good stable classic . The market is slow and prices pretty low in North
America.
The only person I knew who owned that kite never used it. He found his 7m was as small as he had to go but was very skilled even for the year.

It's not awful on the ozone frenzy of that era, can't say the same about many other brands...
I have found that if it's too much for my 9m depower and I have to get out the 5m depow, it's just not going to be...FUN. it's gonna be work, and
i'll go real fast and probably get my ass kicked.(snowkite/ATB)

Erratic winds- what kinds of wind speeds do you use your 5m in?
I guess roughly i'm looking for a kite to use in 20-30mph (ish. I guess Idealy it would be 18+) I don't know if that's unrealistic for one kite.
Especially in my budget.
I've been kiting in 25 odd mph with my 3m FB, I have to concentrate and be careful obviously, but it's perfectly doable. Is that not comparable to
your / a 5m depower?
Excuse my naiveness, I don't know much about depowers.

'05 Frenzy is awesome. My Favorite series for sure. 5m is FASSSST like G-Force said.
Relaunch and ride, had actuated safety works really well. If the wind is seriously nukin she will still be able to drag you even on the brake lines.
But the wind has to be stupid high.
Pull wise it will be slightly higher than your 3m FB but not by much. Kite rocks in winds up to 40mph.
We sold ours a while back to a local rider. Uses it for his high wind speed kite.

I have only resorted to the 5m when it is a base 25+ gusting upwards, and being so far inland, it can gust way up in speed. Found moon gravity at max
depower @40...on ATB and was happy to get home alive and uninjured. I keep the kite for a nuking bluebird snowkite powder day and as an advanced
trainer.

Thanks for your help.
Seller is asking too much for it for me to consider TBH. Bit of a shame really! I'm itching to move to depowers, it will have to wait.

I had a 7m 2004 (I think 2004) and it was a good kite. Did not like the edges of the window though. Would tip curl all the time. Maybe it was just me.
fun kite though.
