Accessories review - Hyperflex AmpIII 6/5/4mm wetsuit

Got it from wetsuitwearhouse.com - good price and reasonable shipping AND they ship worldwide on most items... the ones they don't are clearly listed.

I call it my whale scrotum suit :D it's thick and rubbery and totally warm. In fact, for 10˚C it's almost overkill... it's a bit of a sweat-fest pumping up the kite, setting up, and launching - it's not til you're in the water, wet, and being wind-chilled that it's actually comfortable  The time it started snowing, I didn't even notice :D

Once I'm into it (much easier using the plastic bag trick) I don't actually notice the bulk. The suit flexes just fine and doesn't inhibit movement. Well, not that I can notice!!!

I got the 3XL cos I'm fat. I also have a Hyperflex Access 3/2 in 3XL... the 3/2 fits nicely, maybe a touch short in arms and legs by a centimeter or so - but I blame that on it sitting out in the sun and shrinking. The 6/5/4 is slightly longer - it covers down past the wrist and ankles, riding onto the hands and feet... just. Will be good for sealing against the water.

Getting it off is a struggle - chest entry and cos it's so thick, I just can't get it down over both shoulders like you're supposed to, so I work out one arm then roll it off. Phew!

So far so good... got me wondering if I need a 4/3 fleece-lined suit until the temp drops below 5˚C!

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

I accidentally find out about Hyperflex 1 years ago in my local diving store ... Pictures of kiteboarders in catalog got my attention and after taking closer look I purchase gloves, booties, hoodie and changing mat .....
Amp series split toe booties : I got 3mm and 5mm for winter . Very solid . Split toe helps keep you feet in right place . Strap help keep them on and are placed in good location and not getting on you way when sliding into straps .... Thick bottom got some flex , but you need to forget about "feeling " you have when riding bare footed . Quite good seal on top preventing water to go in when freeriding .. 5mm is a bit stiff and I would not go with thicker booties for kiteboarding .... I see few people in our crew using same 3mm ... my brother, Martin .... and I do like them a lot comparing to my previous "diver" booties ...
Amp series gloves : 3mm and 5mm .... all good here also ... very happy .... nothing really to write about ...
Amp series hood: 5mm ... a must for colder winter days .... really helps keep you warmth ... short neck to use with dry suit ...
AMP 2mm Neoprene Beanie: good for wormer winter days .... Get size smaller then needed ... Expends in water and easy to loose .... Would be nice to have leash on back that attaches to wet suits sipper as seen in other brands
Wetsuit Change Mat: Good product to have .... dump all you wet staff in to keep you car sand, smell and moisture free ... I use it about 50 times and cord start ripping edges of material after few uses ... Still happy to have it for $20 ....

I've got their Access series 3 and 5mm boots - not fleece lined, but perfectly warm enough so far. I ripped the 3mm boots when I got yanked around in the shallows and landed on rocks :-/ I have 5mm fleece lined boots and gloves from XCEL but I think the gloves will be too stiff and the boots too warm :o

What're your thoughts on fleece vs regular for warmth? I'm wondering if 2 or 3mm fleece-lined would be as good 5mm...

Oh and I replaced my Access 3/2mm suit with a Cyclone-2, cos the price was right :D the neoprene is buttery and smooth and is so much nicer to touch than 'regular' neoprene!

... omg geeking out on wetsuits lord help me...

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

Just wondering why there seems to be more people in wet suits than dry suits. Is it the durability of a wetsuit vs dry?

Cost... and fitting :D the AmpIII was about $250, drysuits are usually double or more.
