Hardwater Kiting Global Speed Ranking 2013 Results.
Speed Ranking Results are in!
Slim participation but the competition is tight with Matt Hepp representing the western US against a trio of East Coasters. Peter Lynn Team Rider
Molly Savard and Michael Woroniak dualing at just .10 mph difference and Concept Air Rider/ Stormboarding veteran Charles Meding taking the lead with
a top speed of 45.2mph winning him a HWK GSR T-shirt and a shot at our TBA grand prize for overall fastest.

Great job everyone. As more people are finally getting to snowkite we hope to see some more entries in the next round.

Good to see the first round of entries.
in this area we just got out for the first session sunday and now they are calling for warmer temperatures and rain for the end of this week - rats!!
.... but maybe it will either leave a slush layer to freeze or a nice clean ice surface that will be fast.
I posted a link to the speed ranking on another forum so maybe as we get into it more you'll have some northern entries coming in.

A lot of people in the same boat and just recently been able to get on the snow. We actually could use some rain here to consolidate the surfaces.
Thanks for spreading the word. As the season moves along I'm sure participation will grow. A few of the usual suspects around here didn't submit
because they felt thier speeds were too low. As it turns out they were right in the same range as everyone else and one of them may have beaten
Charlie. Oh well, you can't win if you don't play.
We'll see what next week brings.

For the first moderate wind session I was probably in the pack - took a GPS but didn't get around to turning it on - spending more time helping
people. I find the vast majority of people don't have or use a GPS around here. One guy did post a message saying "I wish I had multiple GPSs because
I'm sure I would have been in the top ranks"
Maybe, I'd like to see that too. I've always found that as soon as you can actually see your speed most people are surprised they are not going 100mph

Workin on it......snow whales make it hard to build speed. First sesh was just finding my legs again High temps this week along with some rain gonna make the lakes soft. Week after should be prime if things firm up
and snow holds off.

Looking forward to getting you back in the ranks. :wink2:
A lot of people don't have good riding conditions right now. I've gotten a few emails from others who have participated in the original ranking to
let me know they want in but lack conditions.
We've got all season.

HWK Speed ranking results week #2
Another week of competition hampered by winter's lack of commitment to actually being winter. None the less a few people managed to get out before
the warm spell and get some riding in with Paul Morse coming out on top.
A few people tried to get out last Thursday and carnage ensued. The winds here in the Northeast were pretty exciting to say the least.
Week two results for the Hardwater Kiting Global Speed Ranking can be found here...
http://www.hardwaterkiter.com/snowkite-speed-ranking-results...
We aren't officially tracking distance but Jim Cline put in 123 miles in today in one session so he's set the bar if anyone wants a shot at the
distance title this season.
Thanks again for those who were able to participate.

Week 3 results are in and on the site. Seems we're all still out of synch condition wise and participants can't seem to get a break. Schedules and
conditions just aren't meshing but people are having fun trying and that's what counts.
Charles Meding has reclaimed the top spot in week 4 with Jim Cline close on his heels. Brian Beveridge is still giving us a strong showing out in
western Canada while Rob Bocik out of Green Bay managed to get a good run in through the rough snow conditions in his part of the world.
We're happy to see Saulius Moliolis back in the ranking and with a good first showing for the season.
We're especially proud of Vanessa WoroniaS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s submission since it's her first ever entry to the ranking and a great first entry for a new
kiter.
Please see the ranking here.....
http://www.hardwaterkiter.com/snowkite-speed-ranking-results...
Thanks again to everyone who participated and for those who have been considering it, grab a GPS and see what happens. Until next week.....

haha that's awesome.
Gary Kjellerin is about to through his hat into the mix. He's been laying down some fat speeds at Sandbar but hasn't been able to get the data to his
computer. He's resolved it now.

Things are heating up. American Gary Kjelleren tops out the week at over 65mph while Petri Lehikoinen of Finland comes in a tight second with a speed
of 61.45 followed by Bryce Johnson at 57 mph.
Week four results are here...
http://www.hardwaterkiter.com/snowkite-speed-ranking-results...
Some riders were closed out of this week due to bad surface conditions but hopefully we'll get them back in next week.
Thanks for all that submitted to the ranking!

Wow, here we are at the january and we've been doing well to avoid wind and good conditions. The surface was perfect last weekend but some places had
zero wind and other places just enough to cruise and good day for learning. Now steady rain all day yesterday and today and into tomorrow followed by
later in the week to be high winds and cold. that should make a nice churned up slush frozen into crap.
It's nice to see some people are getting out and having good sessions.

Yeah conditions are up and down all over the world. I just got an email from Petri and his surface is messed up now as well so it will be intersting
to see what he sends our way in the next round. They got some snow in Vermont but we have rain due in the next couple of days so it may hurt or help
Gary's conditions.
We'll see.

Week 5 results.....
http://www.hardwaterkiter.com/snowkite-speed-ranking-results...
Surface conditions continue to be an issue for a lot of kiters. We have boiler plat and glass ice here which is great if you like riding that sort of
stuff (I do) but not good for others.
We have our first Kite Sled entry into the ranking this week!

49.9 mph on the snow spider sled today , just short of my 50mph goal. Does the 0.2 or was it 0.02 variability in the recorded speed allow me to claim
50. I'd like to move on to other things with that full feeling of accomplishment. 45.3 or something like that on my bladed speed buggy before I broke
the front end off it dropping through a double layer soft spot, 25-30mph winds , 2.6PL Viper. I didn't even get to turn down wind to see what it would
do.
Absolute mad fun today!

Speed buggy is fixable, its a bmx bicycle front end and it broke the forks off at the stem , just need to insert new one.
Fastest recorded speed and probably fastest speed on the sled. I could see the wind surges as the big wind would pick up snow off the surface and I
would try to get into position to intercept. I did not have to deal with any severe banging gusts so it wasn't too bad other than getting turned
around in 30mph winds. I feel like I can move on now and try flying standing (leaning) up on skis.

are you calling me "the magic 30mph Mark"? Come on, I went faster than that on sunday!
(I know you didn't mean it that way)
Glad you got further out and had a chance to explore more - I spent too much of my day trying to help people get back upwind and untangling their

I told Feyd he should have a misc speed catagory : Upsidedown on my arse backwards, there would be numerus entries. I did some high speed snow
plowing with my face this year , its so satisfying when you come to a stop and the the kite is under contoll.
