FINALLY finished my Airdeck revamp. Check it out :)

(Sorry, i put it in the wrong forum)

Hey,

So with some help from a member of kitecrowd, and his Twistars, I've finally gotten round to finishing my project of re-vamping, and re-designing my Flexi Airdeck board.

Even though i do say it myself, I'm pretty pleased with how its come out !
I wanted to take it back to the wood, as i really like the look/ colour of wood in general, and i wanted it to be a bit different and unique. I hadn't originally planned to put any graphics or design on it, but i was inspired by some crop circle patterns i saw, so i masking taped it up, stencilled and cut out the design i wanted using an old screw, and a chopped up cereal box, and added the darker stain.
Then loads of tough outdoor clear varnish and i just had to put it together.

The deck has obviously been re-done,
I've replaced the trucks with some used, but good nick scrub ones, bought from the local shop,
Replaced all the nuts and bolts (apart from the bindings ones),
Replaces bearings,
Replaced hubs,
Cleaned up the rest of it.

On the one hand I wanna go out and use it all the time, on the other, its so nice and clean... (And may damage easier than before)

Please let me know what you think of it ! (Be nice)

If youre interested to see more pics of the project (there are plenty) see:

Take care

I like it. :thumbup::thumbup:

And personally, it looks a lot cleaner & sharper than a lot of production decks.

The color of the crop circle pattern complements the wood color very nicely.

If you are worried about the underside getting chewed up, you could always epoxy a 2-3 mm sheet of translucent PTEX/HDPE on.

It won't add too much weight to it, and minor gouges can be repaired the same way an snowboard base is.

Cheers guys :) Im pleasantly surprised with peoples reactions, i assumed more people wouldn't like a wooden board these days !

Ah, okay it might be worth doing something like that, Sam. I did try looking for some kind of clear plastic sheet, but couldn't find anything good. Do you have any more info / links on the stuff, as i have no knowledge/ experience in that area!

Cheers,
Tim

Do the bottoms/edges of these boards take a beating like skateboards do... If so, you can go out and purchase UHMW cutting board at like a target or walmart...$10 bucks or less and in colors...You can easily machine it, curves and all to match profile of your board to protect it. If you would like further help we can discuss in length.

Even though I don't board...Looks good...Love the "old school" wood deck. Nice job and always satisfying doing the job yourself

What you are looking for are P-Tex Sheets. They generally come 32 cm (12.5 inches) wide and you buy it by the meter.

In the US, you can order it from a place that sells snowboard construction/repair materials like:

http://snowboardmaterials.com/pages/base.htm

or from a place that specializes in HDPE plastics like:
http://www.crownplastics.com/

Although they don't list the sheets on their website, http://www.absolute-snow.co.uk/, does stock pretty much everything else and should be able to point you to a source in the UK or provide it to you as a special order.

Tell them what you are doing, and they should also be able to help you with selecting an epoxy and give you some ideas on the best way to apply it.

The absolute best way would probably be epoxy and a vacuum bag, but they might have a cheaper solution.

Some of the speciality plastics companies also sells PTEX with an adhesive already applied.... forgot what they use but it's generally meant for food safe conveyor belt type applications and once it cures, it's not going anywhere.
