If you want to use a harness with handles you'll need a spreader bar (which attaches to the harness) and a strop ( a piece of rope, etc. that connects to the handles and you loop into the hook part of the spreader bar). I think you'll find that a lot of places offer the option of a spreader bar w/ the purchase of a harness. You can buy them seperately too depending on what kind of spreader bar you want. In the buggy section of this forum you'll find several threads still going about handle strops for using with harnesses. A bar is fun as well, but you loose the amount of control you have with handles. Most bars come with a loop of some sort that would then connect to the spreader bar which is attached to your harness.

I started kiting back in 97'. After flying for a 2yrs. I sold my kite due to living with horses (kites scare horses  . And yes, I found that out the hard way). I just got back into the sport last fall. So much has changed technology wise from when I first started flying. Back in 97' fixed bridal foils were the only kites I knew about and could purchase. Now you have Lei's, depowerable foils, etc. And bars have seemed to of come moreso into the mainstream too (while back in the day it seemed like the few people I knew that flew kites, made their own bars).
It's pretty insane overall.
