The official VTT Stinger Race (warning: buggy porn)

Ok .. so you've seen the Stinger buggy with the cool wasp logo. Then you saw the yellow hybrid buggy which was the prototype race buggy.

The Stinger Race is now refined and at it's final design stage. Here's some pics to drool over. I will have it at the Ivanpah dry lake and maybe at Red Lake to test. It is made for my size so it's about 17" between centers on the rail width. It will be available in 17", 18", 19" and 20" width.

And it's available to be picked up after the meet up at Ivanpah dry lake for 20% off since it will be used for the meet.
Retail is $1850 with aluminum wheels so for around $1500 it's a steal for someone with extra cash burning in their pocket.
Fender and side plates will be included. Still need to make those.

Can we post a pick of the buggies you brought to Ivanpah a few years ago to compare  Looking Good!

I will bring some grease so I can slide my slightly wider than 17" body in there :) I want to give this bad boy a try. If I can go faster in it than you do I get it for free?

Nice job. I do like the mat finish on the powdercoat.
How do you like the wheels and tires?
With the 17" wheels, what does it weigh? Is it bigfootable?

curious...how do these wheels roll in the loose or deeper sand...better, equal or worse than the commonly used barrows tire?

Love the rims.

I have a set that I used on my Hardcore and will use them on the Sysmic next week. On the beach they are great on the hard pack but you need to have your speed up if the sand get just a tad soft. The barrows are a bit wider and do a bit better from what I have found.
If the beach is hard pack, they are a sweet ride. Like riding on a rail, a bit hard to break them free for a good old power slide.

I get a special break on cost with the mat finish and also it hides most scratches. That's why all my buggy usually get the mat powdercoat unless someone wants to pay for the shiny stuff.

I like the 17" wheels .. they look great and ride great on the hard pack we have here in Galveston.

The larger wheels do weigh more due to size and the tires are moped tires so are heavier than barrow.

17" aluminum rims with moped tires = 12 lbs
16" barrow on plastic = 4.2 lbs
16" extra wide on plastic = 8.4 lbs

I remember my buggy was around 70 lbs with barrows so my guess is it's around 100 lbs with the 17" aluminums. I haven't weigh it but you can see that it goes up on two wheels pretty easy.

Here's the yellow one ...

I actually just ordered some wider tires to try on the softer sands. I got them in but haven't tried them yet. The current ones are 2.25" wide. The wider ones are 2.75" so might sit a little flatter. They do make them 6" wide but are expensive. The wider ones are for motorcycles. I buy the moped ones which is like 1/5 of the cost but they are thinner. Works fine for hard pack so I'm not too worry.

Moped?

What does that mean?

Like moped, like a smallish motorized cycle like a Honda spree or Vespa or something? Or is there some other meaning to "moped?"

I was reading it as the past tense of the word mope,... I'm confused....

soliver- yes, he does mean mo-ped, very small motor-bike, not the past tense of acting like a sad lump.

Those wheels are sexy, though I think the best buggy bling is old motorcycle hubs!

Thanks EW,... It was coming more clear to me as I was finishing my post,... But I had to be sure there wasn't some sort of tire-rubber terminology I wasn't familiar with,... I promise I'm not that unintelligent.
