Inside the cracker box
So as some of you guys know, I'm only about a month into my buggy endeavors. Anytime I can depart at a certain point in the field, make a run, and
wind up back at the same point is HUGE TO ME! LOL. This is my stomping ground (
) . My local field about 250 yards long, and about 150 yards deep. It is what it is. About the time I get rolling good, it's time come about .
It is good however to get in the basic buggy skills needed to run with you guys in the future. It's nothing spectacular I'm sure, but just wanted to
share how things are progressing with ya'll.
Yesterday winds were SW at a solid 15-18 mph. Direction was perfect for this field. I used the Rage 1.8 and the Bullet 2.5m. I wasn't setting the
grass on fire, but I had a blast. Actually got a sideways skid once or twice :o . Wifey was kicked back in the lawnchair with her Kindle, and the girls were riding bikes, and hittin' the swings and slides, and I
was back and forth for a few hours.
Go easy on this buggy noob with his wittle kites :embarrased:.
I'm gettin' there Donnie! One training wheel at a time!

That place won't have the cleanest winds.
If strange things are happening at times , it most likely isn't you but the wind. Staying a bit small isn't a bad idea . That place is likely to give
you gusts. If you can get good there you will be able to ride anywhere !

Small areas are better for the beginner anyways, IMO. You get to practice your turns more that way.

Yes Sir WG! Mi casa su casa
Bladerunner, the only time you can really fly this field is with SW winds. It is better suited for static flights because it's a tight fit with the
buggy IMO. Pretty wide open property behind the camera direction, but no fly zone. Doesn't have the tall tree line so mostly clean air does make it in
as long as it's SW wind. As usual this time of year, it's getting harder to fly here because of all the joggers, soccer practice, etc. I always yield
because I don't want to ruin what little field flights I do enjoy. Come on fall/winter
kiteballon, Agreed. It's better than not flying at all. It's just seeing a lot of you guys all over the place with huge fields, long beaches, etc.,
makes me drool :sniff:

In the same boat as you 3shot, not many large areas to buggy. If there is an open field to buggy, I gaurantee you it's surrounded by trees. That's
the way it is around here. I make the most of what I have to work with. Really like the pics! I'm a noob buggier also...still learning what it's
all about. Now if only the airports would share their runways I would be set, lol.

Moved from the other thread. Better fit here I think.
Yesterday was just a tad too windy for fishing on the lake, so it was a no-go. Finally SSW winds 15-20 mph at the park . Got about a 1&1/2 hour run in today, but it was a blast. First time
flying the 3.5 with winds bumping 20, and it was GRRRRRRREAT!!! Super clean wind for the most part. Except there was a dude hitting golf balls from
one end to the other of the field. We were polite and yealded to each other. Today was the fastet day for me so far. Felt like I was going 50mph but
was really like 10-15 if I had to guess. I know- I know.... thats hardly moving lol, But that was a big step today (for me) with that 3.5m in higher
winds. It got a little hairy at times getting into and out of the buggy, but the rest was pure awesomeness . I had to do it. I had to feel real
power, and today was that day. Did not have to deploy KS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s one time. I learned a lot more today. The biggest was how to scrub some speed
off. It is a short field, and today the ends came up a lot quicker than they ever have before:o. Got the kite up high at the ends of the field, and
turned just a touch up wind. Don't know if that's the proper way, but it worked great. Oh how I wanted to down-turn full blast in that wind today!!!!!
Just wasn't quite comfortable enough to commit in 15-20 mph winds on bumpy grass. Crawl before I walk.
I'm sure it sounds like just another day, but it was EPIC for me. I hated to leave! Just wanted to share yesterday's ride .
Ate steak with a few Sam Adams last night. Life is good but arms are sore. LOL

Lookin good 3shot,... Sounds (& looks) like you've got a great spot to ride.
The great thing about riding on inland fields is that it really teaches you great turning techniques (if not you end in the trees ) aaaaaaand flying in inland winds teaches you how to manage the kite really well
(dealing with gusts and lulls), so that when you get onto a beach, it literally is SMOOOOOOOOTH SAILING. Tridude told me that when I first met him and
it is QUITE true.
I'm going to take a nap now

Thanks so much Soliver! I am having to be self taught at the moment. Not proud of that fact in case I'm developing bad habits early. The only good
thing about that is the real embarrassing stuff stays on the field that day. LoLoL. That's why I post pics so much here. It's not to say "hey look at
me", and spam every thread, rather just sharing what I learn each trip, and how I could do better. You guys are my teachers at the moment. All of my
buggy info has come from this great forum! I've got some great tips along my buggy transition in the last two months. And, being self taught so far,
am very proud of not one OBE. Have made some rookie mistakes but no OBE's, climbing of trees, or blown out cells. I will be at JIBE next year and
really want to have my sh#t together to the best of my ability. I don't want to be that cone in the middle of the highway so to speak LOL. WELDNGOD
has graciously offered to share his sand with me this fall. That experience will be golden. Like you say, I'm sure that's when I will realize how
helpful riding in my cramped field has been. You really have to work the kites here to maintain momentum most days. This past weekend was an exception
for the most part (Geese that guy hitting golf balls, and I'm sure he was saying "geese that guy and his kites" LOL. But again we were very courteous
to each other). I've got a GoPro request in for Santa this year. Then I can join in the movie star club too :D. I literally watch you guy's vids over
and over. They are great and very informative.

Try if you can to get with an experienced rider as soon as you can,... I got with pokitetrash about a month after I got my bug and it progressed me in
leapss and bounds,... Then next to the beach and recognizing the value of clean wind.

New (to me) buggy engine :D. First flight with her today. Just a static run to get the feel of the Reactor II, and tweak the lines. Winds were about
3.5-5 mph sw. Amazing how well this hangs in the sky in very low winds. Lots of grunt too. :o :wee:

A Dogfish or 2 will enhance any experience. 90 minute is a staple and 120 minute is a special treat when available.
Love your riding and flying field. Takes me back to my days in Georgia riding in the field behind the grocery store and the soccer field. You'll get
to where you are sliding as much as just rolling!
