PL Comp XR+ adjustment


Oh yeah! Another dumb question from the noob. Just wondering how you guys riding XR+'s have your downtubes adjusted. I'm right at 6' and started out in the longest position. It feels comfy and all, until I need to go to near full lock on the fork. At that point my outstretched leg just barely keep my toes on the peg. After my last ride I shortened it up all the way. Steering feels fine now but I'm a little cramped in the seat when pointing forward. This all said, I haven't taken it out like this yet, just sat in it. So anyone about my height? How are you set up?

Josh, I'm 6'2". I am maxed out on the last holes. I am still a little cramped at that setting.
I really need the PL extended downtube but I cope. Don't know if it's corny or not but with the stock downtube all the way out, I had to mount the fork backwards with the footpegs pointing forward instead of back :dunno: :crazy:. Don't know if that's OK or not but it gave me just a bit more comfort. And PKF, if that is corny, please do laugh and scold. I'm a noob too :D

Custom modification is always acceptable ,unless you get blasted by well intentioned PKF veterans , in which case you may want to rethink the modification.

I'm 6'1" and was cramped on the last two holes with the standard downtube. I've got the extended downtube now and it's much more comfortable.

My first bug was an XR with the VTT rail kit,... I'm pretty sure it adds length to the bug, on top of that, the rails are higher so its a little more secure, and the seat is more comfortable to boot.

The only wrong answer is the one that will get you or someone around you hurt. Safety First !
After that, have a ball, try whatever you want. Do something different.

Most of the innovations in this sport come from the rank and file, the makers, the tinkers, the guys that just can't leave well enough alone and the rest of the community is grateful for it.

I encourage you to share your ideas and innovations, listen closely to what is said with an eye on learning from others mistakes and above all else, keep your own counsel on what works for you. (even if you get blasted by some old curmudgeon like me)

Bring your downtube in a notch or two until your toes can reach the outside peg at full lock and then see how the balance is. The other condition to observe is if there is enough weight on the front tire such that is actually turns the buggy instead of scrubbing the ground. I don't know what surface you are on, but I found on the hard-pack sand that leaning forward a bit in a turn would get the front wheel to grab and help the turn. You can always pull the tube in again but there gets a point where your knees are in your face and you are too scrunched. Like Bobby Muse said, it's then like squeezing in to a washing machine.

The other thing to help with tire grip is playing with tire pressures.
