I'm having real trouble trying to find a new helmet that fits me properly, and its starting to annoy me now..

I've probably tried on about 8-9 helmets, and bought about 5 of those varying combinations of makes, models and sizes. Although I can return (or sell on) each one and get a refund It still costs me ~£10 for postage etc per helmet..

The one I have at the moment is a Giro Remedy, in large (59-63 cm. My head circumference is 60cm)

When I tried it on in the shop it felt okay, although it was a little loose around the cheek pads. The guy there was sure that it would be alright.
Getting it home and having a proper play around though, I'm not entirely comfortable with it. When I put it on, and tighten the chin strap properly it feels comfortable to wear. But if i hold the helmet at the sides and move it up and down (as if the helmet was nodding) there is a fair amount of slip, and it moves up and down a good few inches, so at the bottom of the nod the top of the helmet is covering my eyebrows. It doesn't have much movement side to side (like shaking your head).

Surely this is too much play ? Or am I just being paranoid..

I've tried on the giro remedy in medium, and that is far to small, it doesn't even go on my head properly. Same story with the Bell drop which I've tried on in two sizes, and several others !

I would be happy to return it if I thought id be able to get a better alternative, but I'd just be in the same situation, going through different helmets wasting money as I go and not having a good one at the end of it..

I ran into the exact same conundrum.

It should not move a "few inches" for and aft.

Giro says that the Remedy Superfit system is based on a database of various head shapes that should result in a helmet that fit 98%. Apparently you are the other 2%.

Is mail order your only option?

Realistically, yes. There's this bike shop close by (http://www.fatbirds.co.uk/) that can order them in before I pay for them, where I got the helmet I have at the moment. But I have already tried all of the helmets I like that they can stock that are within my price range...

I was stranded on an Island and came across a Mermaid who said she would grant me one wish....I said how about a little head and POOF!!!!!!...she gave me one.....
I too have an odd shaped (smallest ever) head and have the hardest time finding an adult helmet even though my 10 year old's helmets fit me...

Try looking into other helmets besides bike helmets....skiing, bmx, etc.....I'm currently wearing a full face (they make others) downhill GS racing helmet...It is extremely lightweight, has pretty good ventilation and I feel secure in it. As Sam said...you shouldn't be able to move it around...think of the pressure that will be applied to it when you actually take a fall.

Boeri is the name brand I have...Bern is another nice brand....Nice to see you are concerned about safety and wearing one...

I recently got an Urge (they make both a DH and an Enduro full face MTB) and they are primarily a European brand. Have you looked at them as an alternative to Bell and Giro? The supplier I got it from offers a one year no questions asked return policy.
