I don't think that's going to make you gain lift. If you fly in slightly higher winds that should do the trick though..haha. Just be careful out there. First few times I flew mine in 4mph winds, then I stepped it up to 6-8mph winds and got much better airs and lift. Am looking forward to what 10-12mph will be able to do..plus I'll have the wing warp to help out adjusting when I get lifted a bit.

The crossfires like brake input for control reasons though. If you have it hooked to a bar (and even on your handles) the more input you can dial in the better. Of course if you over do it then it'll just fold up. I've actually got my lines attached to the closest points and have even thought about creating my own knots to dial in a bit more brake. However, I just got the wing warp kit and am waiting for my bar to show up before I go adjusting anything thing else on the kite.

ad... you should definitely have it set to the 2nd or 1st knot..you'll notice it flies a lot better. As soon as I got mine I had it set on the 2nd and since have moved it to the 1st, however, there is still a quite a bit of slack..so I've been temped to create yet another knot above the 1st. Guess we'll see though.

Steve.. the wing warp system converts your fixed bridal kite into a semi-depowerable kite. I say semi, because if I said it converted it into a depowerable kite I'd be lying.

You don't get the same amount of depower that you do with a true depowerable kite (from what I've read you only achieve about 35% or so depower) but it's supposably helps a lot with controlling larger liftier kites in gusty conditions.

I'm hoping it will help with being able to be lifted when I want to be and not being lifted when I don't want to be. The crossfire (and I would imagine the blade is similar) tends to want to lift quite a bit whenever you come anywhere near the zenith you can feel the pulling tendencies. You can definitely feel the build up before you go up, however, there is only so much time between the two to correct the kite and I'm finding that there is even less in the gusty conditions.

I mentioned that earlier because I'm not sure what it's going to do to the bridal system I currently have, so rather then messing with the brake bridals before hand, I figure I'll hold off til I get the system figured out first. Don't want too many things going on at one time.

I believe Flexifoil made something similar to the pegas wing warp for the Blade, but I may be mistaken. Both arent the easiest setups to find though, however they're pretty much useful on a variety of kites. I'm guessing more people just tend to opt. either fixed or depower when purchasing a kite, rather then messing with bridals and such. Or the advertising for the systems just weren't selling the product like they thought it would. Everyone I know that has one swears by it though.

If you're interested in the setup it cost $35 for the wing warp and then of course you need to either make a depower bar or buy one. I believe powerlinesports.com has one more setup for sale..not sure. That's where I got mine though and the guy (Andrew) up there is pretty knowledgable and helpful. For myself, it's a cheap fix as oppose to purchasing a Frenzy or Montana (although I'd love to have one of each..haha. Then again who wouldn't want every kite out there).

~Joe

ps. once I get my bar and have it setup I'll review it on my review of the crossfire too.

Code -

I'm not sure about the bridle set-upon a Crossfire, but either the Wingwarp or UDS II type sytem are designed to fit with a kite that has A, B, C, D (if your kite has D's) and brakes each bundled to separate secondary bridles. I haven't flown Blades either, but I think the 4.9 and smaller aren't bridled this way, but the larger are.

I have a Concept Air Freestyle 3.5 m that is bridled this way, and it has made for easy experimenting with both a Wingwarp style and UDS II style depower system. Except in [really] high winds, that kite works best as fixed bridle on handles, but it's fun to play with the depower options. UDS II works pretty well on handles or bar - smoother than the Wingwarp because the extra pulley stage make for a smoother camber and AOA adjustment.

I also have a Quadrafoil kitesurfer XXL 7 m fixed bridle. Awesome kite from 1999. A, B, C, and D's for 2 cells bundle to one secondary. I'm thinking about adpating it to UDS II depower. This has involved a lot of measuring and even laying out in profile view in CAD because I will have to make a LOT of new secondaries at very specific lengths to keep the shape of the kite. I'm still not certain I want to spend the time, but I like experimenting. Any changes I make will be reversible in case the experiments stink. And I have a Viokite Proteus 7/8 that rocks and is just made for depower experiments, so maybe I'll leave the Quadrifoil alone as a pure low wind, fixed bridle experience.

Good luck with the Crossfire.

I could be wrong, but I believe that, if you are converting a fixed bridle kite to a semi-depowered situation via the UDS or WW system, you may also be wise to upgrade your flying lines (specifically your brake lines) since standard depowerables have all four lines of equal strength. I think the crossfire is sold with 220# brake lines - that may not be sufficient with the WW system?? but don't take my word for it, just something to think about.

I've got mine hooked to the knot closest to the kite. Still seems to be a lot of slack in the lines though. Have been considering throwing my Ozone lines on it too, to see if that makes a difference. Not being a pain at all..if I figure out something on mine while messing with the lines and such I'll be sure to let you know. A lot of the bow-tie stuff that you were talking about is caused just due to lack of wind or wind obstructed by objects like trees, etc. I'm sure once winter hits and you start getting more wind you'll see a completely different creature in the kite.
