For Sale... Windsock Material (formerly a 10m Venom)
Okay, so I'm not really selling the 10m Venom yet, but if you're interested in a very large project let me know and I might be willing to send her to
a good home for rehab.
As always, when things go sideways, they go sideways REAL fast... Each comment during the fiasco is 2 seconds long. That means about 8-10 seconds
from crash to "oh sh*&t"

Wow that's really unfortunate Dave... Is it just too much to send it out and have it fixed (fix my kite etc.)?
I'm going to take a nap now

I have yet to *actually* assess the damage, but at first glance it is cost prohibitive. It may be a good opportunity to improve my sewing/patching
skills. Honestly, I haven't been that bummed about it since hours and hours of setup frustration basically made me secretly hate the kite. There's
a (very dark) part of me that's like, "see, kite? That's what you get when you don't cooperate"

or something like that.
...fly salvage because everybody flies crashed gear.

It didn't really look that bad - it's when there is shredding and distortion of fabric that it becomes a messy fix. This is just methodical work
through on repairs, some just a pain to undo stitching to access but all repairable. Sounds like Chad is willing to help out

I'm willing to bet that John er Powerzone can fix that up without hesitation. Probably not as expensive as you would think either. He fixed a 10m
synergy that I thought was gone forever, not that long after I got it too. Cost me more for shipping than the actual repair.

If you did part with the 10M what would you be asking? I have been wanting to get a kite in need of repair to get my hands on learning repair. I might
be interested.
It sounds like a demon possessed the kite for ya.. :alien:

Hrm... Well, that all depends on PHREERIDER... I've been toying with the idea of replacing blown up kite with a flysurfer and I've been meaning to
pick Chad's brain about it since he's basically my hero (okay, so not my hero, but he was a tremendous help at JIBE). Anyway, if I decide to sell it
KO and include non-broken spars, I'd probably ask somewhere from $50-100. Does that seem reasonable?
Chad, what do you think about looking for a small flysurfer pulse, unity, psycho or speed? The setup of the smaller arcs in inland winds is getting
to me, and I really like your kite (12m pulse2?).
@nfish: I know! It basically acted like an unsupported c kite until I brought it down, and then it acted like a plastic bag. It didn't seem like I
crashed it that hard, but the wind WAS whipping pretty good.
Thanks, all, for the advice and offers of help. Either way, this is a great kite and should be fixed up by someone. I'll try to do some DMG
assessment tonight and see how bad it *actually* is.

I rushed out and bought a 7m Speed when I was shopping long ago. John from Powerzone strongly suggested I move to the Pulse for land. It so happens
one came up quick so I didn't fly the Speed a lot before moving it. The Pulse has served me very well ! For a long time , through a number of NABX
events and many a beginner. Not even a pinhole !!!!
The Pulse isn't a super aggressive kite but I like that in strong winds. I preferred my 13m Psycho III over my friends 13 Pulse.
Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.

Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .

I watched the video and saw the "oh sh*&t" moment. That was pretty ruff damage but it didn't look like the kite did much dragging, or banging.
Looked like something I have done on smaller kites with no damage at all. Did all that damage in the video appear at the "oh sh*&t" moment?.
Looks like it will take some work to get it back flying again. At any rate, I would be interested in acquiring this diamond in the rough.
cheers

damage report for a look is a good start.
value ??tough call. life left in fabric is the real limiting factor. if its all baked thin, its over.
passing a busted unit for 50 is cool(no spars)
pyscho 3 12m definitely a favorite unit with more range than pulse 2 14m i have. 8m pulse 2..or 1om psycho 3 either would be a deluxe choice.
psycho3 are quick with snappy pop .
the v10 is more c-kite than depower esp. in good power like 30kts... from a water perspective crazy fun and quick!

I don't care how he presents himself, Dave is Not a nice guy, he is EVIL. He took me buggying in a field full of cactus and I was in a Kite Trike with
a low slipping seat. I think it was just a trial to weed out the wimps, because the next day he led us to a hard pan (no cactus) and sweet 35 mph
winds. My Kite Trike was completely disintegrated after 5 1/2hrs of trying to keep up with Dave and John. Anyone want a kite trike for parts?

It's actually Van's fault. He's all, "I wanna come to CO to go snowkiting..." and I'm all: " Okay, lemme go scout some places..." then I'm all "Hey,
Tami and John, wanna come scout 40,000 acres of evil spikiness and kite-shredding plants?" And Tami's all like, "sure... lemme bring my tin buggy and
right around at 20 mph (strongarm, btw) in horrifically bumpy, spikey land and then go online and blame dave." So anyway, blame Van. It's his fault.
FYI, working on a FS purchase. If it goes through, I will either a) fix the venom and sell it or b) sell it as a shredded kleenex for cheap or c)
trade it to my FS dealer for FS credit towards my purchase.
Still trying to find time to dmg assess and do pictures. Single dad this week.
p.s. but seriously... Tami was a blast to buggy with, and she's super pumped about the sport. Now we just need to get her into a proper buggy,
*cough* Van *cough*.

Kite skin's got life left in it to my touch, it's just a matter of deconstructing a kite in order to replace an entire interior ?rib?, and some other
patches.
I think a patch job and a wash&seal would have it back to life nearly good as new, just a matter of labor & time, both in short supply when
you're a parent. Good Luck!
Tide? What's a tide? Man, it's 1000 miles to any ocean.

I already "deconstructed" the trailing edge on a cactus. That's like half the work...
Also, these are the things I noticed on the initial inspection:
1) Blown trailing edge (at a seam, about 4" horizontal, 2" vertical)
2) New hole (3" diameter) on colored side (in the black, mid-cell)
3) Spar pocket hole (0.75" diameter, top, flat side only)
4) Fully disconnected baffle directly to the right of inflate valve.
5) Broken Spars (easy to replace, I prefer aluminum tent poles now)
6) Small rip (~1-2") in the white side.
I also think there are some thin spots in the nylon, but I did recently replace the pigtails (using factory specs and amsteel single braid
spectra/dyneema/whatever). Pics to come. Waiting to hear back from the FS guy regarding trades.
Cheers,
Dave

Heh. Sorry for not replying in a timely manner, MG. I think I'm going to sending out for repairs and then keep it (maybe to sell later). The other
guy wasn't interested in a trade and I feel sort of horrible about destroying a kite and then abandoning it forever. So instead I think I'm going to
send it to Van for a repair. He's got a another shredded arc, so we are going to split the repair costs.
I still need to give the other venoms a once over, though. If I shredded any of them, I'll send you a u2u. That field really WAS spikey...
