I hate my mate. He's a nice guy, a fireman in fact- doesn't matter, I still hate him!

Just before I left for a long stint at work he let me have a quiet moment with his 4m Exit in some gusty 10-15mph winds. The feeling of raw power was amazing. At the risk of sounding like an excited child... it was like being hard wired into the elements!

HE'S RUINED MY LIFE!…. 6 weeks with no chance of getting my hands on a serious kite!
I've spent hours since online doing research, reading up, and dreaming about whats gonna happen the moment I touch down in the UK. After sleep and re-union with the girlfriend of course… ;)

Which brings me to the point…

Hi, I'm Phil from Lincolnshire in the UK and I'd like to thank all you for this forum. I've been browsing the threads, sucking up knowledge and I'm grateful for all the time and effort you guys have put into creating this source of information. I can not wait to get home and start making the words a reality.

I'm drawn towards a 3.5 Rage to firmly get to grips with static kiting first, all the while keeping an eye out for a buggy.

I've got a working understanding of physics and gravity and so not interested in jumping….

Welcome! That 3.5 Rage is a great static flyer, and a great buggy Engine. Very well rounded kite IMHO. Funny. Like most of us, one taste of a real kite, and it's all over. Oh, Buy your girl something very special now because after you have been poisoned by the kite addiction, pocket money turns into pocket lint. LOL

Everyone has their favorite brands. It's a personal preference really. You are on the correct path in looking into a 3m ish kite. You'll never outgrow that size IMHO. Looks like some great deals on the kitecrowd forum as well. Be sure to check out those too. Most are your neighbors in the UK.

And, the moment I STOP feeling like an excited child while flying, it's time to give it up.

Hi, I figured a 3M-ish will be good for a first flier on steady days and future proofing my self for when the wind picks up, and by then I'll hopefully have a bit more skill to make the most of it.

I'll check out kite crowd too thanks, I'm still 4 weeks from getting home so plenty of time to work myself up about it all!

Welcome. That rage will be perfect. Fantastic first kite that you'll use forever. Kitecrowd is great, too. That's where I spent my first year before I found these guys. Enjoy your new hobby and keep us updated.

hahaha you should thank him really...

3.5 rage is a perfect starter kite and will become a good buggy engine for high winds.

There are good deals on flexifoil gear in the UK at the moment so its alos a good time to go shopping.

Kitecrowd could do with a few more members outside the kitesurf section actually so hope you join up there too. PKF is definately the best place for all things powerkite related & kiteforum.com is a global kitesurf community though other kitesports are represented too.

Welcome!

I started flying stunt kites a little over 20 years ago. It got so bad that I basically saved $300 or so a year to buy a new kite every time I went on the family vacation to Myrtle Beach and stop at the local kite shop. It all started for me the first time I saw some kids on Nickelodeon flying stunt kites on a game show... About 7 years ago I got my first feel of a proper power kite, and that is the direction I have stayed since. Now, I have a serious problem... Just this year I have bought a new kite, a harness, an ATB, and a buggy. My bank account hates me, and the girlfriend hates how much money I have spent(even though she loves flying kites with me).

Thank you for the warm welcome

I've no doubt this is gonna get serious, I've got all excited about hobbies / toys in the past, but given it a few days and the buzz has subsided, thankfully before I spent!...

But after flying that kite for a while the feeling has really stuck in my gut and I want more! :D

We had a cool dredging moment this morning, I'm in Venezuela near Caracas and the Russian navy have been visiting with 2 Destroyers (I think) and a heap of support ships, They gave us a salute on their way out today... one crew paying respect to another, quite moving.

Great choice the 3.5 Rage. I have more Flexifoil kites in my quiver than any others, they are top quality wings. I have found my 4.7 Rage is one of my two go to kites as it has a surprisingly wide wind range. You will absolutely have a blast honing your skills on the 3.5. Welcome to the addiction!
