Great Lakes Area Kiting Locations Help!
Well, it's been a while since I've posted here, but I remembered to check in every once in a while! I've been much more active on the
chicagokitesurfing.com forum, since I prefer being on water (sorry guys!). Anyway, I've assumed the task of crowdsourcing a map for the Great Lakes
region of ALL kiteboarding spots. This includes snowkiting and landkiting too!
Great Lakes Area Map
My legend is as follows:
Green: Suitable for beginners.
Yellow: For kiters who can ride upwind with moderate board skills.
Orange: Avoid these locations if possible. Kiters must be advanced. IKO3/PASA2 level skills recommended.
Red: Limited access sites. Potential for danger. Not recommended or require IKO3/PASA2 certification.
Brown: Open grassy areas suitable for landkiting and snowkiting in the winter.
Blue: Open area frozen lakes suitable for snowkiting.
I'm putting a lot of work into this and it is 100% free for the community. Google's maps engine is still in Beta testing, but it "should" have more
features when the final product comes out. I'm scouring the internet, but always appreciate any spots you can send my way. Please include: Address,
Launch difficulty, Parking and fees, General notes.
Share the stoke!

That is a great map!
Makes me wish there was something like that that covered the whole US, so that no mater where we traveled, we would have a clue where to fly - water,
buggy, or atb.

PM me. I'll add them. This way we have consistency. I've added all 200+ spots so far. A labor of love for all of us wind addicts.

Nice map! Thanks for all your work. It's def a labor of love. Wish I kite surfed, would make my summer opportunities greater. I live on the
western side of lake michigan, unfortunately the winds are always some form of westerly and that doesn't equate to friendly winds along this shorline.
Wished I lived on the east side of the pond

Funny thing is, living on the other side of the sportsman's lake, we wish we lived over there. There's always west in the wind it seems. If you have
any spots to add, I'd appreciate any and all you can contribute.
I hope people send me their local spots! Sharing the stoke is what I want to do. Localism is good, but not when it prevents people from kiting when
they easily could be doing it safely.
