Aerial Fly over of our 5 acre Llama Ranch

Syma X1 R/C Quad Copter $40.
808 style key chain Video Camera $20. (480x640 x 30 fps)

oogles of fun. :D

VERY COOL cheap fun toy to play with over our 5 acre Llama ranch buried deep in the woods a couple hours from Seattle.

Couple of fly over during the morning mist and sunset, with a 150 foot kamikaze free fall dive bomb run at the end.

Thanks for sharing Windy. Quite the giant tree stump next to the drive way:o LLamas didn't seem to mind the copter much did they. Cool way of getting some aerial shots on the cheap:thumbup:

Keychain Camera. Yes there are higher resolution models like 720P or 1080i, but then more cost too. Mostly the poor video quality is from helicopter vibration, and it was foggy that morning.

There are cheaper $10 cameras too, but this $20 unit even came with its own a 4 gig micro SD chip and built in Li-ion battery.

Amazon.com: Night Owl Security CS-Key-4GB Video Key Chain Recorder with 4 GB Micro SD Card: Camera & Photo

Quad Copter is only $36.

Amazon.com: Syma X1 4 Channel 2.4G RC Quad Copter - Spacecraft: Electronics

If you want to loft a GoPro, get ready to spend some $$$ coin: but wow, this is GPS route tracking, go to home, and hover at a set altitude compensating for a cross-wind. wow.

Amazon.com: DJI Phantom Aerial UAV Drone Quadcopter for GoPro: Electronics

Still have some money left over? Fly your copter with a FPV, "first person view" with a live streaming video signal from the copter back to goggles you wear.

Amazon.com: Boscam FV01 FPV 2.4G/5.8G All-in-one Head Tracker GOGGLE/Video Glasses & Camera: Electronics

But back to my $60 rig, instead of $1500+ and more.

Note my high tech carbon fiber active closed loop Red Solo Cup NASA spec scotch taped vibration dampened keychain camera mount, and other aerodynamically beneficial Red Solo Cup Rat Rod grill and visual "this side is front" which is very beneficial when the copter is overhead 100+ up.

Thanks for the pics. About how much time do you get from a fully charged battery? How much range can you expect? I know, pesky questions but I'm thinking this would come in handy for some aerial shots I've always wanted to get. I've launched my GoPro a few times on a single liner just to get some shots, but that has it's limits. With some practice, I'm thinking this would give me a little more flexibility and not break the bank.

Nice use of a red solo cup btw;)

Really cool and the price is right. I'm thinking I can finally get my kids to come to the beach with me while I surf and they can get some footage of me. I've always wanted to watch myself...but I gotta say, I'm afraid of what I might look like.

OBTW, great beer

on a stock OEM battery, about a 8-10 minute flight.

350 ma hour.

you can get 600 ma hour batteries for about the same price, and they last a bit longer.

I've had it up to at least 200 off the ground. When the 2.4 ghz radio signal gets too weak, the motors auto-shut down so you don't get a powered fly-away.............

.........that said, you also get a stalling tumbling quad-copter that you get to try and recover in mid fall when the radio signal picks back up.............hence that last 10 seconds of my video.

It's also got a dual rate control, so setting 1 is fairly docile (but does take some practice) High Rate gets you ability to do hard banked turns and go against the wind a bit..........definitely worthy of outdoor flying, in fact, I wouldn't even try to fly it indoors it's that radical.

I am less interested in the copter than I am the llamas. What is the benefit of farming llamas..? Milk, wool..?

We're raised Llama about 18 years.

had max of 8, with 3 of them were female so we did a few breedings.

sold the girls and now have the 4 guys.

names Charco, Leahal, Dusty, and Yukon Cornelius.

they're our kids, mow my pastures for me, we hike backpack with them (once 3 of them packed in 225 pounds of camping gear 2 mile hike up to a high alpine lake)

we shear 'em but don't do anything with the wool.

fun critters and easy to care for, you can have ~3-4 llamas for the same costs of 1 horse.

THE DRONE EATING TREE BARFED UP MY QUAD COPTER AFTER 2 MONTHS!!!!!

THANK YOU BIG WIND STORM.

These R/C SYMA X1 quad copters and a micro key chain video cam taped on top are a total blast to play with....

I've got about 4 of them as they're $35 cheap fun and they're darn durable....

...even when they DO get STUCK up in a tree 75' high for two months, with video rolling:

Once again, thank you copter eating tree! it made for some GREAT crash video footage.

My video looks like crap compared to what a $2000-$2500ish rig can produce using real time feedback First Person View Piloting with a good camera on board.

but then again, my rig only costs $50 total.
