4 meter pl twister

Has anyone tried one of these for landboarding? I've been flying static for a couple of months and it seems like it would have enough controllable power between 8 - 12 mph. I wasn't sure if the next step should be new kite or get a board and try it.

Depending on what surface you're boarding on and how much you weigh, that kite will be just fine for boarding. Now, if you enjoy junk food as much as I do, and use your board in an deep grass field like I do, then you may need 15-20 mph to get good rides ;)

Thanks, for the info. I'm about 220 and ride in grass also. I will get a board and give it a try.

The 5.6m is a great landboarding kite so I'm sure the 4m will be too. You may need a little more wind to get moving at any speed but its a good thing to be underpowered while learning the basics.

Oh yeah, one other important accessory you should probably pick up, if you don't already have, especially once you start moving on land - a helmet. :alien:

Thanks pongnut, I think I can find an old bicycle helmet laying around the garage. Another thing I might need is a harness. I don't have one now and I think I can get moving without one. Do you normally where a harness when you use your FB kites to board with?

Nah, I just Popeye arm it ;)

Again, it kinda depends on the surface - if you're riding on a dry and low-cut soccer field or hard pack beach with low rolling resistance, then there wont really be a lot of pressure on your arms. But if you're mowing through deep grass or no-so-hard sand on the beach, then your arms are going to get tired pretty quick. I haven't had the guts to strop into my harness with my FB kites yet - too damn gusty around here. You can sort of "buffer" gusts with your arms, but if your stropped in, the effect of a gust is pretty much immediate. My wind here is just waiting for that first time I strop in so it can yank me out of my shoes and drag me on my face!

One thing on the helmet though, if it's the classic oblong bike helmet like in the first picture - you should pass and get yourself a skate-style helmet instead - way better protection!
