Pre-Event/5 Lakes Catered Safari

Hey Gang,
I'm throwing this idea out to see if there is interest.

Plans are for a Safari to Elmer's for the Pre-Event (and hitting as many of the 5 Lakes as practical) that would provide all transportation, all meals, and sleeping accomodations.

Dave and I have both recently acquired big Ford vans.
We both have trailers.
AND his Dad has expressed interest in being our camp manager and cook.

Aimed at our East Coast friends who don't want to be faced with bringing camping gear as well as buggy gear, but want the experience of camping on Elmers and Superior (etc) and not need to run for a motel every evening.

We can carry 6 clients.
We can provide round-trip transportation from Vegas to the Pre-Event.
Coffee and Breakfast every morning and Dinner every evening.
Mid-day snacks as well.

Dave has a large canvas wall tent.
One would need only a sleeping bag and pad to be comfortable.

We figure a 4 day/3 nite Safari for $300 per person.

I'm interested in comments on the feasibility of this.
Do we have enough buggy'ers to generate enough interested?

Gay Glenn,
Good to hear from you man.

Sleeping WITH me will cost you a bit more than the $300 for the trip.

No worries accepting pre-shipments of gear here at the shop.

That's one... Only 5 more slots available.

Not sleeping with me won't save you any money...
But it just might save you from a lifetime of heartbreak.

Jeez, you learn sumpin' new every day... here I just thought he was a little homely.

O'course, sleepin' with the Lama is not all it's cracked up to be... and whatever you do, DON'T LET HIM FEED YER DOG!

Once he's snoring, you can always apply a pilot light under his nose, and fire up that good Bushmill's vapor... great on a cold playa night.

'Nuff outta me, hee hee.

Corey, What's pre-event schedule like - what place when? I will be flying from East cost for NABX but don't know when exactly. So, depending pre-event schedule, I might fly to CA or NV directly. - Brian

Brian,
The Pre-event is even less organized than nabx.
We typically start at Elmer's (el mirage dry lake).
Same place, Walt's Cove, where you found us at Fall Thang.
Usually by Thursday and Friday the crew starts arriving.

Depending on the weather (rain and wind mostly) we try to buggy as many of the 5 Lakes Challenge (between elmers and nabx) as we can.

Last year we headed for Superior Dry Lakes (above Barstow) on Sunday afternoon.
The rain threw them off on Monday and they came to Ivanpah directly.

Some bail Sunday evening for work on Monday.
Others stay and wallow in the playa until making their way to Ivanpah and the start of festivities and nabx (which is usually a Tuesday).

It's an opportunity for adventure.

AJ's awake!

So glad you chimed in, AJ... was just wondering if you were still scanning these pages for dog food references, lol!

Good thing the Lama's got such big shoulders, and can take this abuse so well... what would Buggy Town be without him?

Howdy,

Couple of changes have occured that improve the Safari.

Dave's buddy has acquired an 18" double-axle enclosed trailer that we can use for the trip.
Not only will we have plenty of gear storage but also another sleeping option.

Two reservations have been made.
That leaves four seats still available.

All-inclusive Pre-Event Safari - 4 days/3 nights - $300

Howdy Gang,

Seems the Pre-event Safari idea is a GO.

Had two reservations until yesterday when I got an e-mail from Miki Baba in Tokyo. She likes the idea of staying out on the playa instead of leaving for the motel.
Precisely the folks I had in mind.

With Miki & Tsune, that leaves only two spots open.

If you had thoughts about joining this group, you might want to say something to me now.

Don't send money.
For the moment, knowledge is power.

Gang,

Brought to my attention that an 18 inch trailer is nothing to brag about.
So true.

In fact it is 18 FEET long, and enclosed.

Makes a bit of difference if you're trying to get something into it.

Corey,
I'll be joining you for the 5 Lake Catering Safari. It will be alot more enjoyable than sleeping a car or driving back and forth to a motel.
I can help with the cooking
See you on Friday March 30.

Welcome Fran,
It's shaping up to be a great Safari.

Time is drawing ever nigh.
For you fence-sitters, start doing the numbers.
Rental car.
Gas.
Motel Room.
Food.
Motel Room.
Food.
Motel Room.
Food.
Gas back.

And that's before you check into Buffalo Bills for nabx.

The Pre-Event is 4 days/3 nights of variety.
A variety of lake beds
With a variety of terrain
Shared with a variety of fellow buggiers.

Our Safari allows you the luxury of being there for it all.
No leaving the playa every day, running into town for food or a bed.

Limited spots remaining.
Get off that fence and make your committment now.

Glen,
Bring your checkbook.

(I also accept credit cards, and with prior authorization, cash)

BTW... Can you hold off sending your buggy and gear until a week or two before the event?
My warehouse space is limited and it would be appreciated.

Everybody would help me tons if they place on-line orders ahead of time for tires and such so I don't have to be a business-guy on the playa.
I don't carry product for sale to the event.
Only delivery of prior orders.

So I can play and relax too.

Brian,
No worries for the smoothies.

Please place your order on-line.
Disregard any shipping charges.
Mention >nabx< in the Special Instructions box on the order page.
Tell me when you'll be arriving so I can have your order where you are when you get there.

I'll make the adjustments.

I'll charge the bill to your card just before I leave for nabx.

That way we preserve the playa for play - Not business.

Sound OK?
