nanna and grandson want some fun

Hi people,i have looked in to this land boarding and it looks fun,me and my grandson who is 8 would like to give this a go but on a very low key not interested in high speeds or stunt riding, would just like to cruise the wind on a land board that both of us can have a bit of fun on,its hard as we are on a budget ,i have found a land board for 200 nz dollars yes it is a cheapo ,now the kites now he weighs 30 kgs and i am 64 kgs would a 2 1/2 meter kite with handles be ok to just cruise across the land at low speeds ,i thought of making him a harness as make dog and horse harness and have a line from the rings to a harness on him,my friend is looking at making him a lightweight buggy out a 3 wheeler mountain terrain kids pram ,any idea's we would be grateful :P

Nanna- awesome you want to share this with your grandson and do it yourself. My son started flying and riding when he was 9 but really think that was too young to get it. Everything sort of clicked for him when he was around 11, so i think the 2.5 would be a really good kite to learn and scud with but also found that a bar was critical to get him to be able to ride the board or bug. I like the idea but if on a tight budget wait a little while- would be more enjoyable for him and you.
good luck and love to hear about a grandma doing an "extreme" sport:D

Hello! Yes, you can get started with just a bit of cash, and get it all put together as you go, it's what I did! Took me years, but having a great time on a shoestring budget now!

2.5m-3m on handles should be a great way to get started, and should be able to give him/ya a little pull. A ozone turbo-bar can be a good introduction to a bar and using a harness after learning how to fly. Climbing harnesses work acceptably well for kiting, though kiting harnesses have more padding in some areas, so a child-size climbing harness may be worth keeping an eye on in the used stores for!

http://www.extremekites.com.au/forums/ is a forum a little bit closer to home, that might help you find good deals and hopefully some more local knowledge!

Hope you have great winds soon! Good luck and best wishes!

abkayak lol yep i bake, thank you guys me and my grandson do heaps of things together ,i like to be full on and it gives my grandson a chance to grow and what ever i take an interest in he seems to follow and shows a lot of talent at many things and keeping the door open allows personal growth to develop and we enjoy getting out and having fun ,i will get the board and put it away for xmas and get two kites so he can learn how to fly a stunt kite as he is over a one string kite he spend hours outside flying a kite,he is pretty good on a state board and scooter so with the land board i will tow him of my mountain bike so he can get the feel of it and from there i will harness up his pony in the cart and tow him across large fields ,myself i will learn the board by getting the pony to pull me around the roads at a slow pace ,i may even get my large wheel scooter modified i have used it in the past for running a pack of dogs ,also going to get two tractor inner tubes as we are only 15 minutes from a lake could be fun on a windy day being pulled across the water having fun, thank you for your input roll on some extreme windy days
