If NAPKA would include ski/board/skate for snow/ ice kiting in insurance coverage...this would open doors.

Have not found an under writer for snow events yet. If anyone has any leads for me shoot me an email or U2U. I would love to add snow to NAPKA arsenal. Our current insurance company struck out on the snow side of things. If they had a lead they would go for it

Maybe this will spark a renewed effort...and thanks for the efforts already, Rich.

Seems one insurance company buys a rider(s) from another- is often how the insurance game goes. But this concerns me on the cost -as you now have a 'middleman' broker who want a fee on top of the one providing the rider.

If one insurance company can provide the service directly and not go to another I would think it might be cheaper...but I don't know a lot about EVENT insurance and insurers.

Further...I don't know what makes being on snow ANY more dangerous than being on land? Anyone...anyone...Bueller?

And if it's not more dangerous, the insurance companies needs a presentation that makes them understand that-so it's coverage is including in power kiting event activities coverage.

Having Winter events to gather w/ others socially in a larger outreach- like we do with the `non-frozen surface' events-like WWBB, DBBB, JIBE, NABX...and the rest... would be great.

You are correct in a way Brian, but I have been trying to get around that by having our insurance company do the hard work. Having them contact the underwriters and sign them on for future business should benefit us both.

I have also argued the fact that the liability is the same if not less on the snow then on land. That is how I got as far as I did last year. Maybe another nice email explaining such will help remind them. Problem is I don't want to tick off the insurance company that now supplies us the insurance having them drop us all together. As I have learned, everything has to be worded very carefully and walking on some egg shells helps as well. This is a slippery slope (pun intended) that I must walk to secure what is needed at an affordable price. Waiting on some phone calls now so that I can try and get some good conversation going between the ins company and the underwriters.

As more than just a meet up (Thanks, but I'm On the East Coast 'Alberta boys'!)....these sanctioned or official INSURED events sometimes provide a place hold and gives a good standing that allows kiters to even use the area sometimes.... and may provide insurance even as a meet up area( under the idea it is practice for racing/event- thru NAPKA- if I recall correctly...)? Rich?

Insurance and not being sued always makes the town/state/ reservation/park more comfortable with adventure activity on 'their' public domain. Seems impossible to have any official event today without insurance. Meet ups yes..... Events..no.

Good luck trying to secure insurance....

The insurance thing is pretty amazing.

Snow doesn't seem to alter policy costs much but add ice to the mix and costs go up considerably. The policies Hardwater Kiting uses cover us for operations on ice. Not many are covered for ice as IKO's provided insurance doesn't cover instruction on ice. So our costs are higher than most. In addition we also list every municipality we operate in as additional insureds as well as federal and state lands/entities. This adds to the cost but it also eases concerns for some towns have and opens doors to us in regards to access.

Always fun living in the land of the lawsuit.

Correct Brian, I am still working on it. Waiting on return calls. Fun now is finding an underwriter to cover both US and CAN. Sounds like the US part is going to be fairly doable.

I will keep you posted as to my findings.

I still like Saratoga Springs for a location because of all the other things available to do in town , though parking and access is somewhat of an issue. Onieda lake at Sylvan beach is pretty ideal , close to major highways, multiple public access sites due to the ice fishing activists and public parks , gianormous casino nearby with rooms, clubs and food. Late last March conditions where predictable enough for approx 20 kiters to come flocking in on the same perfect day, no permits required :-).
