Can anyone speak to comparative experience between the XR+ and the Folding Buggy?

My regular ride is an XR+. I like it a lot. It find it's very comfortable. I can go fast, handle a lot of power and almost never get pulled out. It's wonderfully stable.

If you've ridden both, please tell me what do you think? How do they compare?

Philip

I fly: Charger II 6.5m * Charger II 8m * Charger II 10m * Scorpion 10 (for sale) * Phantom II 12m * F-Arc 1200 * Venom 13m

I ride: Peter Lynn XR+ on Midis * Flexifoil Midi/Barrow * Peter Lynn Comp on Barrows * Peter Lynn XR+ (needs a fork)

I build: Custom bars for buggy pilots

I write about kite stuff: at http://philipbchase.com

It's basically just a matter of if you need a buggy that can fold down. I keep mine in my vehicle all the time.

That's a great price on a folder. Go price out a new one. Especially since it's got the midi tires on it!

The riding geometry of the folder and XR+ are similar. The difference is the form factor when knocked down. The folder takes on more of a cubicle form and will fit in many small care trunks. The XR+ takes on a long rectangular box form with longest dimension that of back axle. It can go in the back of the same small car if part of the back seat folds down (so common these days). The XR+ takes no more time to knock down with no tools than the folder takes to knock down.

Feel free to toss me a U2U for a more accurate shipping quote but to save time I'll offer this:

$100 for shipping, I'll e-mail receipt and refund the difference if it's cheaper and I'll cover the difference (upto $150) if it's more. I might be way off but I won't know for sure until I can get to the post office on Monday.

Now if the winds will just cooperate with me.

Probably the best upgrade you can make with this buggy is to add a " spring back " style backrest. The were produced long ago but are simple to make. I have one on my little buggy that is basically the same and borrowed a folder with one at Wildwood with one on it. The 2 buggies felt and performed identical.

It is basically a back board ( Spring back used plexi glass ) about 4' wide and about 20" long ? Mine is now mounted to the axle with single hole pipe straps ( I'm an electrician ). From the top You take an adjustable strap down to each side rail.

The straps coming down each side offer me much more lateral support. The back rest is real help on long days.

Dirtslide has made a few very nice ones for himself. He would no doubt help you make one.

Those fat tires may be nice. My back end is very loose the way this buggy is set up.

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.
Flysurfer : 19m Speed 2 SA, 7m Pulse
Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.

Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .

There is a picture of Morrie's broken one in this link. Not perfect but it may help you visualize it .

Here is a picture of one on a buggy.

here is a photo of my 1992 PL comp with a spring back rest and the straps

phone 177.jpg - 28kB

I have also sewn a large pocket on the inside of the seat and then slid the plexi-glass down inside the pocket ,then when you lean back on the back of the seat it will give you a backrest .I will see if I can find a photo of this style of back rest .
