7-10M Depower Foil Kite

I have a friend who is looking to get into Snowkiting and is looking for a 7-10M Depower Kite. I was thinking something along the lines of a HQ Apex, HQ Montana or a Ozone Access. I am open to suggestions as well. I have looked at the Peter Lynn Lynx as well and thought that may be an option as well. If anyone has anything they are thinking of selling in this range let me know.

Thanks!

Im Selling my HQ Neo 2, it is a 11 meter in the blue camo. Been flown about 12 times, never wet, never crashed, very crispy still. Will come with lines, bar, kite, and bag. Also have harness, and landboard if interested.

Have an 8 meter Ozone Access XT I'd be willing to part with. Good condition, brand new line set put on it last month. Not positive what year it is, my best guess is 2009/10, the model year they didn't have a trim strap/ clam cleat. No rips, cuts, tears. Chicken loop has minor cracks but doesn't affect performance. Thinking $400 including shipping to your destination in the United States. Was going to keep it to go with my 12.5m Montana, but ended up buying a new 9 meter Frenzy, so it's too close in size now and no longer need it. U2U me if interested. I can take some pics today and get them put up if you want a look. Later..

Hello Rob, I am interested in what you like better/how you use differently between the HQ Montana and the Ozone Frenzy. I looked at both for quite a bit but ended up going with the Montana because I mostly fly HQ kites.

Montana/Frenzy both very similiar in flight characteristics but Frenzy def has Montana beat in the fit and finish category is all. I like that my Frenzy has a fifth line safety and will kill all power even in the windiest of days. On overpowered days I felt that the top hat safety on Montana/older Frenzies still had some pull even after it was deployed, I wasn't a huge fan of that. For the price I think HQ is the better value, IMO. I think it comes down to a matter of personal preference. Both seem to be exellent performers, good turning speed and good jumpers. I had some extra cash at the time, so I splurged and bought a Frenzy, I don't think I will ever regret that decision:D

Plans to get pictures of my Ozone never materialized today. Work stuff along with damp yard made picture taking not so good. I think it's supposed to rain again tomorrow, so not sure when I can get them done. Weather hasn't been very cooperative lately:evil:

No worries but I think that kite would be perfect for what I am looking for so I would take it at your asking price as long as it is in as good of condition as you say and I could see a few picks. I am interested to give the Ozone products a try to this point I have only flew HQ and Peter Lynn kites.

Consider Ozone or Flysurfer - it'll be a good step up from affordable HQs.
ARCs are also not less addictive.

While there might be technical differences, I'd have to be outflown with the Ozone or Flysurfer to agree that there is a "good step up" from HQ. Grig, have you flown all of the latest from each? I haven't, but the Montana VI and VII have been awesome kites and the VIII is forthcoming. No doubt Flysurfer and Ozone usually make quality products, but I wonder how you came to your conclusion.

Every review I have read has said the older versions of HQ were nothing to brag about. However there new products are very good and many people talk that they are the comparable if not better to Ozone's line up. I am by no means an expert nor am I am I even somewhat qualified to answer this question but I find it hard to believe that all the reviews I have read would be wrong. Basically what I have learned so far is at this time with all the kites out there and in their latest models there is not one that clearly outshines the other, well in the brands mentioned above. My guess is a lot of it comes down to personal preference.

I love my HQ kites and would not trade them, I would however be willing to try other brands just so I can compare them for myself.

Very well said. Unless someone has some experience with the Montana VI or later, they don't know how good the Montana has become. I too have had my eye on a 5m Frenzy to consider as a high speed kite. My speed limit on a 7m Montana is somewhere around 60 mph and it is LIT at those speeds. The 5m would be just the right reduction in power if it can be controlled at those speeds.

We ended up getting him a Slingshot Octane 7M, it seems like a great kite. He wanted the ability to do water as well so we will give this one a go for now and buy another in a few months as this hobby/sport goes :)

Where do you ride? are you just into buggies? I haven't met up with anyone riding a buggy yet. I might like to check it out some time.

The Octane is a nice kite. I think your friend is only going to have a couple of days a year to ride a 7m on the water around here. It should be nice for starting out on the snow.

A 2010 octane, right, the SLE kite? It's a very nice kite. I have a 5m as my storm kite. I enjoy it a lot!

Hello slopecat,

I try to ride anywhere there is enough room but have not found an ideal spot yet. I have a cabin off Cannon lake so I plan to do lots of snowkiting down there this year. I am new into the sport and do not have a lot of experience so I am open to suggestions for locations. I live in Burnsville so I mainly have been looking in the south metro for places to go.

As for the Buggy we have not taken it out yet, as we just finished building it, the plan is to take it out next spring and give it a go. It would be fun to meet up with others though that are into this sport because I do not know of anyone else that does it.
