Unacceptable excuses to not go kiting

So its blowing 30mph today and its about 30 degrees out without the windchill and I'm looking at the email list of those going, thinking about going or not going kiting and I am in the "not going kiting" group today. 10 years ago I think I would have gone and never used "too much wind" or "too cold" as viable reasons to not kite. So for some light hearted discussion, for the diehards  the commited  or the soft like me :dunno:what are the "unacceptable excuses to not go kiting"? I'll start it off...

Too much wind.
Not enough wind.
Too hot.
Too cold.

Mood: rain rain go away...leave some wind so I can play.

No Excuses. If I have a kite that can handle the conditions, I've wasted my money if I'm the limiting factor. Go and grab those handles..

(BTW, I'm in the "fly or bust" category today. See my post in the VABBB forum.)

I'm more likely to fall into either the too much or too little wind. I have really never run into a "too much" wind situation around ATL where it rarely gets over 15mph (even 15mph is rare), but I have flown my 2.6m in 15+mph and it was quite a chore. I can imagine more than that can be quite crazy. Most often though it's too little. I find that a forecast of 10mph more likely produces 5-8mph which means any forecast under 9mph is likely going to produce a lot of frustration.

Where is the "work so much your wife and kids forget your name" category......

I do foresee a slowdown after January.

I will not know what to do with myself the whole week at JIBE.
A solid week of getting up, eat breakfast, go kiting. Eat lunch then kite until dinner. Then repeat :D

I have been kicking myself for a while now about my lack of drive. Skunked too many times ???

It seems like the days that I drive to the park with the hair standing up on my arms , shaking. Not knowing if I was excited or scared but sure I was living are gone :puzzled: !

The one that has stopped me more than once in the last 2 years is the feeling that happens in the back of my head that something is going to go wrong . That I am not on top of my game that day ?

Too cold is also becoming an excuse .

This is my first year of kiting and I thought I would be more eager to go out in the cold weather but I have to admit that freezing my tail off the last couple of times has deterred me from going out this weekend. That and a very long honey do list.

My formula for cold wind buggin is go till your about to turn into a pop cycle, head for the car or truck, turn heater on full blast, defrost, and repeat till you can't take it anymore.

B-Roc- I'm with you today! Easy 30 mph with gusts to 42mph plus a 31* here on the Cape makes me a Weenie!

Soliver- Really? Winds are that weak there? I get skunked by too much wind more than not enough. Sometimes I wish I had less constant wind here- I know, I can hear the "What?!'s" now!

Yep... It's pretty lame. When I started, I was amazed at how big my first 5m kite was,... Now, I use my 8.6m RII so much, a 5m looks small.

The wind's been really turned on lately, lots of days blowing between 10-18mph but they never seem to fall on the days in my schedule that are not workdays or otherwise busy honey do days.

Too dark is my excuse monday to friday as it now gets dark before I finish work and I will have to wait until April until there is a chance of after work sessions again.

Too gusty is another reason not to go out over winter. The wind is often dropping below 20mph and gusting above 40mph which is no fun.

My #1 do not go buggying excuse is "Well the geese migration is in full swing, the local soccer field may as well be a mud bog."

Coming home covered in geese crud is not a fun way to do it :(.

Today my excuse is -- I just pushed a floor sander back and forth across a 100 ft wide gymnasium floor about 1 million times, so I'm just too tired.

Mood: low winds here I come

[*] posted on 25-11-2013 at 12:27 PM

Too dark after work during week, sick on the weekend. One that has got me is feeling it is too windy after a long dry spell of not working. Or no wind is a deal breaker too. My first few years of kiting, I would go out in -35c -44c with windchill. Now I guess I turned into a bit of a "fair weather" kiter. Kids and wife needing and wanting your time on days off are a real killer too.

Back in college many many moons ago, I was pretty serious into waterskiing and getting out on my boat for a day of fun in the sun. Tanned Hard Body College Girls in Bikinis included.

Only cost $30 to go out on the boat.

$10 gas in tow car.
$10 gas in boat tank
$10 beer in ice chest.

but for YOU to ski, you need a driver and a spotter in the boat.

the lamest excuse I ever heard why someone couldn't go out and ski and tube and kneeboard and drink beer on a boat in 85-90F weather?

"he needed to go into town and buy some pencils".

least me not say he wasn't invited out any more.

Where was everybody Sunday, when I went out it was a balmy 20 with 15mph winds to make it a comfy 5 degrees.
Not a soul in sight...
Ooops I forgot it was football Sunday, I'd rather be chasing a kite in the sky than watching overpaid oversized behmoths playing with a ball

More often than not, my excuse is that I have baseball tonight. Being the VP and grounds keeper for our local little league as well as coaching a travel ball club for the local University, I usually have baseball!

I do still get out when I can, just not as much. My kids come first then kiting, I mean then the wife then kiting.
