Helmet types

I was curious how many buggy drivers are using a full face helmet as opposed to regualr motiorcycle or bicycle helmet (or none)?

Coming from the in-line skate world where speeds can be similar and the surface is always pavement, I naturally reached for my bicycle style helmet when I started buggying, thinking that would be prudent.

I've since noticed in a lot of videos and pics that there are a lot of full face helmets out there, and that suprised me at first. Buggying is new to my area (OK, I'm pretty much it for now), so I have no local precident. I'm thinking of goimg to the local motocross shop and upgrading, though.

Thanks

I was thinking wearing a motorcross helmet would make it really hard to see..especially with that sun viser thing but i've noticed buggiers take that off, not sure if you can on some lids.

I have two types of helmets. For the summer a skate board helmet and winter a bmx full face. The full face offers the most protection but it can be hot in the summer.

I wear a moto cross helmet with goggles and have no problem at all with vision, infact the front visor is a godsend sometimes going towards the sun.

Thanks Carl for the pics. I noticed Zloty wearing a lot of armor too.
First time I hit the washboard ripples in the sand going fast I got the idea. I haven't crashed badly yet, but there's that ejection seat button I keep managing to hit from time to time :o

I'm off to the motocross shop. Like Susan, I live in the South and temps regularly top 100 F/ 38 C and humid in the Summer so I'll see how long I hold out next Spring till I reach for the bicycle hemet and rollerblade pads.

Also BMX race gear work well with ample venting, vital reinforce areas and comfort

It depends on the type of buggying I am doing. I have a full face motocross helmet for the crazy overpowered speed runs. Otherwise I may just throw on a bike lid.

I just bought a full face BMX style helmet (from 661). I have buggied for years with just a regular bycycle helmet but after a couple of recent OBEs I realized the main reason I was wearing a helmet was not because I was worried about my head hitting the ground (although that could happen) but getting tipped out sideways and the buggy coming over and cracking me in the back of the head. I realized that the typical cycle helmet that sits quite high on your head doesn't offer any protection for the back of my head or my jaw... so full face for me for now on...

better to be over protected than wear nothing at all. I have had some monster OBE's and was very happy that I was wearing a full face hemet on, and on more than one occasion landing on the back of my head
