It is hard to believe you can have a bad day of kitting but it happened.

We had 8 inches of ice on the lake than got 2 feet of snow last week. We now have 1 foot of slush and 1 foot of snow.

I fell into a large slush hole and got tangled up in my new kite and and freshly sharpened skis. I cut the grey power line that is marked with red stitching What a mess!!

My book says I have a dyneema line set 595/595 lb. 4 X 25m (82ft)

Can I replace the one power line or do I need to buy a whole set? Where can I get the best deal on lines?

Ok this is getting fusterating, the only place I can find to replace the line set is in Europe, I can be the only person needing to replace a line.

Anyone know where I can get replacement lines for HQ?

I'd buy the new set, and save the old ones for if it happens again. Did you try Chris at HQUSA, for a new set? I think don at powerkiteplacedotcom can get you a set, also.

You can get HQ lines from anyone that sells HQ kites.

Or depending upon where you cut the line, you could resleeve it at that point and retie or sew a loop and then cut and resleeve the other lines accordingly to make 4 shorter but equal length lines.

Or you could resleeve and tie/sew a loop in the broken line and then create one line extension (essentially a glorified pigtail) and attach the broken line to the extension (like FS kites do) and correct the problem that way.

Or you create one new line or worse case scenario 2 lines so the powers are both equal.

You don't need all new lines you just need 4 equal lines.

You don't have to buy HQ lines. I am not sure what length they come in but most kite stores should sell line sets.

I suggest you buy a pair of lines at least. As you have discovered having a spare line ( or better line set ) along is always good.

Consider buying a batch of Q line and making a set . Having some in the bag is very handy and has saved me or others more than once. Nice ting with Q line is you can cut it any length any time and not have to sleeve it.

Cutting lines and BRIDLES is not uncommon. Especially with sharp skis. Good to be prepared.

As Bladerunner has mentioned, I would purchase some Q-powerline and just make you a set of lines. Simple, easy to do and you can make them whatever length you need.

Depending on where it broke...It could be splicing broken ends, then shortening other lines by re-sleeving loop....or....

Either by using an EXTENSION -as previously sated by B-roc or by using extra piece to splice to EACH broken end(double splice) ...you can get fixed broken line to be same previous length and not have to touch other 3 fly lines(make shorter). This may be easiest fix-not touching other 3 lines.

Simply splicing a broken lines two pieces makes it shorter than before-thus the need for adding in extra piece. Further....it will really be two splices-one splice to each end of fill-in piece to get back original length and match other 3 lines.).

If you simply splice two broken pieces of the line to each other...you would then have to shorten the 3 other lines to that new shorter length.

....or if it broke at the end near loop...you'll need to loop splice and sleeve loop-then sew or tie. You'll need an extra piece to splice-again-if you don't want to shorten and resleeve other 3 lines.

Tricky to get length right (Trial and error.... loosen, pull more through or pull less through{back}... loosen, pull...)...need to adjust before final pull through and cut. But may be worth it to save cost of new line set.

OR...buy a new set and save these as spares!

Thanks, you guy's gave me quite a few options. I think I will keep an extra set of kite lines on hand, man was I pissed!! I cut my line down on the bar side, just above the larks head knot loop where is doubled up and stitched.

I will get it fixed but it cut my day short. Everyone said I had fumes rising from my head, but I think that was the steam coming off my wet ski pants from my dive into the slush.

The most straight forward way is to replace the set and keep the others as spares. If you have the spares on you and it happens again you won't miss out on your session.

As B-roc said you could get a sleeving kit and cut the rest down to match. Personally I would track down a new set and ride full length lines.

Any HQ dealer can provide you with HQ lines. They don't have to be HQ as long as they're the length you need and load rating. We just got a foot of pow here. We're going to be dealing with a little slush in places too. Slush sucks. If you know where it is it's not so bad but running into it unaware can as you learned ruin a session.
