Gopro mounts

I just received a gopro camera and was wondering if the sticky mounts for your helmet are trustworthy ? What is the best mounting system ?

I've never had a curved helmet mount give way. Just make sure your helmet is clean of dust and oils and it shouldn't ever come off.

I found I get better video when I mount the camera to the buggy or static mount. I either move my head too much or hold it at a strange angle. I do have the helmet mount and a head harness. The sticky mounts should be fine as long as thexsurface is clean AND the curve of the mount somewhat matches the helmet.

Clean the area where you plan on mounting the part. Stick the mount in place and make sure it fits as flat or curved as it is designed. LEAVE IT ALONE TO CURE OVER NIGHT. The 3m tape is the same stuff used on cars and will not hold until the adhesive has cured. I had one fall off and asked why and it was because it didnt cure. After it cures, it aint coming off short of cutting and a crain.
If the paint is applied correctly to which the mount will adhere to, it will stick forever.
If the surface has a bit of orange peel, a small bit of sanding or roughing up the surface may be required.
This is what the techs at gopro and the local body shop told me. Has worked very well even with automotive 3m double sided tape I use to relocate mounts to new and unusual spots.

I didn't let it cure over night, didn't wash the application area and knocked it off in a corn field an hour after sticking it on, luckily it wasn't hard to find.

Thanks for the 3m automotive tape tip

Then only other trick that I can offer up that I do is to heat the tape on the mount, with a hair dryer, before applying it to my helmet. With it really warm, it seems to stick better. I let it sit overnight to fully cure like mentioned above. You can warm the area you are sticking it too, but I figure it may not be smart to heat up a helmet like that.

I just got a Hero 3+ Black edition for Christmas.....what have you guys found to be the best mounting position on your helmet? I was thinking of mounting it on top initially, then I saw video footage of it mounted on the chin and it looks great. I'm just worried about lines catching on it. For mounting on the buggy I think I'll go with the axle, we make anodized aluminum handlebar and roll bar mounts at work for the gopro.

I also picked up the front helmet mount. A little different then the one that comes with the 3+. I really like the way it can telescope out and film yourself. Looks cool anyway. Dunno til I try it.

I was thinking something similar to this as I wear a motocross helmet.

Footage filmed from a clamp or mount attached to the buggy down tube or back axle is often better. These clamps are excellent: http://www.cameragrip.co.uk/acatalog/Mounting_Brackets___Cla... - not sure if available in the US. You'd need the gopro tripod mount attachment as well.
