Not too far behind with 16 years. My God, has it really been that long! I flew the Super 10's and Blades for about 18 months before buying my first
bug in 1998, a Peter Lynn race, which I bought from a kite shop in a mall.
I'd seen a couple of bugs parked outside the shop before but it never occured to me to put kite and bug together, or maybe I thought I wasn't good
enough to try. I got to know the shop assistants well from my previous visits and they got to know me. They were all very enthusiastic kite flyers
themselves and I enjoyed listening to their stories.
I clearly remember one conversation I had with a guy who worked there, who was telling me how fast he'd been in his Flexifoil buggy, (brace
yourself)....94mph!! This was meant to have taken place on Brighton beach, which I later found out is all pebbles.
It makes me laugh now knowing what I know. ..but back then I knew little or
nothing about buggying and sort of took him on his word, although I remember 94mph being possibly a little excessive, 84mph sure but not 94mph I
thought.
My brother and I first tried the buggy in our local park with mixed results. It wasn't for him, so I then spent the next 8 years alone in the park
most weekends trying to figure out to make it back to camp without walking. Then a few more buggy guys turned up and most of us are still buggying
together today.
I never learnt to do any tricks and even today I still don't know how to reverse. I'll never be the best and honestly just cruising around was always
enough for me. Fresh air, sun and flying a kite, you can't beat it.
Damn! All this nostalgia and I've written half a novel. :D

It's only been just over 2 years flying kites... Maybe a year and 9mo in the buggy, but sure feels like longer,... I hit it with a serious and severe

No insult intended at you new guys if I came across as pompous with 7 years. Anyone can go back and read my learning process of kiting and buggying.
If any new guy talks about any first he has done, I can remember the day and circumstances if I've done the same thing for the first time. I can
picture the ride for every pb I've made since the first time I measured my speed. I also remember the first day I linked turns together on a beach in
the Flexi bug I borrowed from Angus.
I really like how so many people mention how much they enjoy the friendships they've made while doing this. Lot's of sports aren't that great a crowd
to associate with. We are very lucky.

So true Bob!
I would not have just invested a small fortune in a new buggy if not for people like WELDNGOD, riffclown, and Chris to enjoy it with!!!!
+1 Soliver. I went at it full throttle too with wallet in one hand, and balls in the other. Funny. on 2-14-13, I joined here to seek advice on moving
from a Symphony 1.8 to a 3m for something more challenging and different. Well, a year later and I'm further than I ever imagined I would go flying
kites. 10 kites, and two buggies later, here I am
Love every minute of this awesome sport.

I took kiteboarding lessons in spring of 2004. I struggled that whole year and never really got going with the board but had built up good kite
skills. I spent the next summer kiting with my rollerblades and found out about kitebuggies and snowkiting. I gave snowkite a try with my 3m trainer
that winter and managed my 1st ride. It was summer 2006 that I truly got going on land with my Coyotes and I bought my 1st buggy that fall. That
winter was my 1st real snowkite season.
So ... 10 years kiting, 9 on land and a bit less with a buggy.
20 years is really something to be proud of !
I hope you get 20+ more ! :bigok:

I think this is my 3rd year? Not too sure. It's been great, even the countless obe's I've had learning in grass fields on my own. I've met some
awesome people that have pushed me to do things I wouldn't have without them. Eli being the main one. The best way to teach me something is to throw
me "in the fire" and Eli is very good at that lol. I've also met one of the most kind people I've ever met, and that is sandflea. He has taught me
many things about life in general as well as kiting, probably without even knowing it. I can't wait to get out and ride again, it's been too long.

I think i bought my first buggy in 2007 along with a couple of reactors from Angus. And really got serious about boarding and buggying around 2009
when I headed to the 2nd annual JIBE event and then WBB. Awesome people and something to be said for getting ripped around by the wind- really helps

Ha! I would have to agree. Sounds like we were "raised" very similarly in this, so to speak. I can honestly say that the two of
them are directly responsible for my progression. Not to mention SandFlea's over-the-top enthusiasm/excitement for the sport is inspiring...if not
contagious.

Glenn, does it feel like 20 years?
I'm lucky to have met you and your wife while I was back at WBB.
For me it feels like I only started last week, so I must have started a couple of weeks before that. I think there was about 2 years that seem
a bit fuzzy but not sure.:puzzled: Might have been before indoor plumbing was invented.:o

i remember the first year like it was yesterday. having nobody to teach me the ropes.
if it could go wrong in the buggy i did it. lines wrapped around buggy wheels. kite falling from the sky. many obe`s i thought to myslef what did i
get myself into. when one day it all came together and i was loving it. i remember speed was my thing. hitting 30mph for the first time. then 40mph
then 50mph i always wanted to hit 60mph but it never happend but i don`t think i`ll ever see 60mph now. so i`m happy just crusing around at 20 to
30mph.

It was 1985, 6 pak of 8 foot flexi stackers and a pair of sand skis. I was working for catch the wind kites at the time (made acquiring gear really
cheap) skied from Otter Rock to the Yaquina Head light house. No harnesses back then, or handles only halo's!! The funny part of that is my boss
was driving down the highway on the way to meet up with us, when he saw the flex stack go whizzing by him as he had got stuck in traffic (road runs
parallel to the beach).
Can't believe I actually got paid at one time to sit on a beach and fly kites.
