kite sled

Just curious if anyone has tried using a radio flyer sled as a kite sled. It seems like it would work as you would be able to steer with your feet. :puzzled:

Bet you it would work! just slap a kayak back support on her and let it rip. Turn radius would be pretty large though.

Yeah, I know it would have some issues, but overall I think it would work. I did a search for it on here and I didn't see anything on it. I thought for sure someone would have beet me to it.

I'm sure someone has done it. But yes, it will move

Just need some sort of side restraints, or you'll get yanked off sideways. LOL

I've got one buried in the garage so I might have to give it a try tomorrow if I get a chance.

Hell, If I had some snow here, I'd go buy one myself. Nothing else, you will have some fun at least. We all often get too hung up in "technical" flying. Be a kid again every once in awhile. Good for the soul!!!!

Not sure anyone has tried a Flexible Flyer. I expect in turns the thin front runners would try to dig in.

Stuff like that is probably what led Pat to build his Snow Spider. FWIW: KiteNH said he tried a Mad River Rocket Killer B (knee sled), but the ride position wasn't particularly well suited for kites.

Of course, if you have $3,000 to drop.

Yup- I tried one a few years ago! Got myself a nice 1970 something Flyer sled- made the rails razor sharp and tried it on my lake- found the sled was too short for my 6'6" lanky As* to be balanced and had many tip overs and OOS dumps!

It can be done but I think you need the 6 foot Cadillac sled for balance of weight

now I think about I still have that sled in my shed...hhhhmmmm???

Shocks even me to see them all glossy and ready for action. Thanks Sam! God I miss KiteStorm. Hard to see it but those hinges are not parellel to seatdeck and skis they are in there slightly diagonal, big big difference in how the skis respond to turning action. Where the levers mount to the ski is kind of a design flaw , I would at times rip the skis apart at that spot. the lever really needs to be mounted over a longer more secure plate to spread out the cranking forces. (or just dont get out of controll sideways). 49.9mph easy peasey lemon squeezy on the flower child one!

Ziggy rebuilt his buggy and decided to give snowboards a go instead of the ski set up he had on the buggy. He put it together with 3 cheap used boards and has fittings with skate blades mounted underneath. So far after two test runs it's been performing way better than the ski set up. Here is a bit of video from Saturday, winds varied but around 20kmh (12 mph) most of the time

Great video markite. It got me looking for more snow kite buggy videos. I found one that they were using standard wheels. I wouldn't have thought that would work.

I don't know if someone on here made this video or if it has been posted in the past but I stumbled upon it when I searched for kite buggy on snow. It's a pretty good video.

this photo and caption was posted last weekend on a local forum:
