Hey Caleb!

I leave for Cancun in a couple of weeks, staying at The Beloved on Playa Mujeres... This is just south of Isla Blanca!

While I will mostly kiteboard the beach at Playa Mujeres I will definitly make a trip on the beach to Isla Blanca!!!

I'd love to see some pictures of the beach and the lagoon and hear your thoughts on the beach there! Do you have an online photo album you would care to share?

What about getting to Isla Blanca? My resort is not far, just before the golf course next to the Excellence. I don't want to end up on the news like some of the poor blokes that end up shot because they took a wrong turn lol. From what I gather everything on Playa Mujeres right up to Isla Blanca is behind security gates?

Thanks Bro!

Brent

Awesome Riccardo! I am so stoked!

You have any pictures of the beach and such, just to amp up my anticipation?

Hi Brent, My pictures were taken at the approximate GPS: 21.33008, -86.79799. On the west side of the peninsula (known as Isla Blanca), wind seems steady and water is calm. It looks like perfect conditions for kiteboarding.

When I went there was a "kite festival" mostly for kids. We drove all the way there. It's just a little shack at the end of the road, but they were letting everybody through on that day. A few kilometers of dirt road at the end. I'm guessing there is access via boat to get further north were I saw the kiteboarders in my pictures. Otherwise, if you had a 4X4 truck you could drive along the bay side of the peninsula. I saw a few traveling with likes of a Toyota Tacoma.

Yes, it is true, the beach access is very limited. Even though the beach itself is public property in Mexico, there are many private land owners that block access. That being said, bring some Mexican pesos with you and you can usually negotiate a price :)

Here are the pics.

Good time to go, its normally around 10 to 20 knots. I was crazy for packing my S3 -21m / rode on my 9m LEI the whole time.

I was told to go Isla, if I was just learning but never made it there from the Hotel Zone. plus I knew how to kitesurf already and I need to rent a car for the one hour drive. There is also Playa Del Carmen for waves, but only packed my Twintip.

If you're still learning and don't want to travel far. There is the Wet N Wild Public Beach near the Hotel Zone (some travel). Im pretty sure your hotel will let you kite right off the beach if its not crazy crowded.

Either way you cant complain, waist deep water flat to mid choppy. HEAVEN.
