I think it looks very, very heavy. And I can't see what you can achieve with that, that I'm not already achieving with the buggy/harness/bar. I can have one hand free 90 percent of the time to film if I use stable kites on a bar.

However, if you upscale the whole thing, I can see some resemblance to the KiteGen project which uses the kite to generate power.

Sorry if I come across a little negative, but I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're trying to do?

Your MFV reminds me of a control part used on a Slingshot depower bar called the 'Center of the Universe Swivel'
Its a simple nifty device that un-spins your lines after kite loops. The top half spins independently of the bottom half and at the heart is an oiled bearing to keep friction to a minimum.

Keeping the friction down is going to be crucial as the turning force of the kite lines at ground level is very small.

Scaling up something like the Universe swivel might help.

so it begins, Ive been waiting for this sort of criticism, forgive my defensive position. Its all in the name of making a great machine.

Buggy/Vehicle application

1)Youre actually inside a vehicle. how could that not be useful? This would work well in the sand, water, ice... with massive kites.

2) you can reel in the lines!! you cant do that with a kite bar. .. not to mention single hand..

2.5) Complete freedom of motion. this means not only kite loops but quick continuous kite loops directly downwind. (almost like a propeller) The lines will never twist.

3) This is just a prototype as it says...
Dudes its made of wood. lol When we get carbon fibre components this device will be 30% smaller and much, much, stronger.

3.5) come to think of it, in higher winds it would be safer than your typical buggy because the whole system (once smaller) could be a roll cage.

How about some optimism??

Any other questions?

RedSky,

I realize the swivel motion at the bottom is very low, this machine has a bearing and a small 100w motor to rotate mechanism.

The reason the product you showed wouldnt work is because it doesn't jive with the principals.

And could you imagine what your hands would have to do to control loops repeatedly with a bar? i dont think my hands could twist that fast.. sounds like a shaolin monk. not to mention ruining the symmetry of the loops.

When you fly a two line traction kite and pull one string, the kite pivots around that string..

Thats what im capitalizing on!

A friend and i are going to make this out of plastic resins, maybe 3D print it, we figure we can make this component 6 inches wide!

in response to your 3rd post...

A rollcage sounds great but for a buggy, your design must allow for very low center of gravity of the forces developed by the kite otherwise the buggy will be extremely unstable. You can't have the kite lines anchored above your head.
Look at a kite buggy rider and where the forces are being generated to give you an idea.

If you can crack that then you might have an application for disabled riders wishing to experience the thrill of kite buggying.
Your kite boat idea was better I think, aimed not at mammoth sea containers because that's already being covered by computer controlled kite systems but perhaps for smaller vessels such as leisure boats. There may be a market for such a thing with the emphasis on saving fuel.

I suppose im being unclear as to my mooring method.

With bigger kites.. youre absolutely right. Keeping the center of gravity in mind is essential. I didnt want to show you guys this because it seems to whimsical. But completely possible. If youve seen kite lifting before youll know what i mean. Here are a few videos for the imagination.

Forgive me. I of course have put a lot of thought into this and forget what i am not explaining..

Im thinking kiteboat.. Diametric foils.

There's no Shaolin monk action required when looping a kite with a bar. The only Shaolin monk action required is if someone gets in my airspace.

I wish I could see your MFV in action. A picture is worth a thousand words and a video a thousand pictures.

I'm off to my bed but look forward to discussing more with you soon. :)

i watched without sound....blackmill just seemed better for the moment. look for a tension converter for electric power?

SScenter of universe, twist it self to death. all the way up the front to bridle,,, had to remove it.

not sure of application my friend . i'll keep watching ....think toaster size and attachment for what i don't know, is there a dynamic component ? or is it just control balance. CAP stuff is cool

Dude, that goes AGAINST why we fly....
I don't need no machine to fly/loop a kite. I don't even fly that wimpy ol' depower crap, because it's like putting a gas pedal on a kite! Kite flying is fun ,watching a machine fly a kite ,not so much. sorry Maybe the sailing community is lazy enough to need a machine to sail their craft. You should look there
