Clean my kite

So this past week at JIBE I got those dreaded poo stains on my Toxic. That scuz that is all around the edges of the tidal pools. A lot of people say that stuff is a b#tch to clean off and can permanently stain kites. What I did was to spread out the kite on my deck. Saturate it with the hose. I filled up a bucket with water and added some of my wife's Woolite to it. The original hand wash Woolite. NOT the new kind that you add to the washing machine. I used an ultra soft bristle brush and worked both sides of the kite. That poo scuz came right off with a rinse.

I know the first line of defense is not to drop your kite in that stuff in the first place but   .

Just wanted to share that for others that may be OCD about their gear like I am ;).

The white is white again :D. That stuff was all over the pretty white leading edge. Clean as a whistle now.

Man 3shot, that looks like a shiny new penny. Good job. It would have been a shame to have stained kite forever.

I use ivory bar soap and a terry washcloth, but the woolite seems to have done a great job. If it's a true detergent then you should be careful. Shiny kite though!

I'll have to try the terry towel. Woolite contains no bleach, phosphates, or enzymes that breaks down fabric over time like traditional detergents. Most of the time, I use a simple baby wet wipe on the dirty spots. That does the trick just fine.

No loss of crisp. However, HQ Toxics have beyond belief amount of factory crisp anyway. Please know, its not a common practice for me to wash my kites. Rather a last resort. Only a spotty wipe down as said earlier is all that's normally done. My Toxic was horrible and needed a bath.

I used the white cap unscented handwash Woolite for delicates. NOT the top loader/ blue cap Woolite. That is a harsher detergent like the everyday stuff you put in the machine.

I'm going to try that on my arc. It's got ji stains on it from jibes of the past most likely. This will be a good weekend for it since there will literally be no wind here.

I just tried it out and it worked well. I thought I bought woolite but after I cleaned the kite I looked at the bottle and it was All free and clear. I think it was right next to the woolite at the store lol.

Per the Peter Lynn care instructions.

zero detergent.

wipe down with lukewarm water only.

maybe I'd just add a smidge of cleaner (something like Simple Green at 1 tablespoon to a gallon of warm water to cut a heavy grease/dirt edge, but page 8 says it all...............zero cleaning agents.

Holy cow man, that looks amazing.

Have any of you guys thrown a kite in the front loader on gentle? I do it with my tents all the time and it works fantastic, but I'm too nervous to do the kite.

Before entering WITSEC, one of the PKF members admitted to do so, and he said he regretted it.

Thought I'd re-up this old thread,... after 2.5 years, it has proven useful to me!

I had some old JI crust on one of the NASA Star 3's I recently sold and the buyer asked me to see if I could clean it up. I tried this method and it worked very well!... It didn't come back to 100% clean, but it exponentially better than before!

I splattered yogurt on one of my kites last year at Jibe. So far nothing has gotten the stain out. May try this to see if it works.
