2013 HQ Apex 5.5 and 8 meter BOTH SOLD

Hello all,

Wife and I are selling quiver overlap: 2013 HQ Apex IV Power Kite for sale: 5.5 meter ($425)

Purchased brand new in 2013. We have Quiver overlap with a 6 Unity.

This 5.5 meter (yellow/Red) purchased brand new 11/5/13. RTF mint condition all around. Used very sparingly - Canopy incredibly crisp - bag great shape, chicken loop was never used (was using a custom one I made) bar and lines in perfect condition. Paid $750 selling for $425.

Can't find manual but they are avail online.
Would like to sell local along Front Range of Colorado if possible to give a chance to have buyer fly them both and avoid shipping

Jeff

Hi again all - obviously totally willing to sell outside of Front Range! Didn't want to frighten off anyone from outside the area in case my orig post came off that way.

Jeff Does the 450$ for the 8m include shipping? Or is it separate?

Nick and Dave - thanks for the endorsements - means a lot to me!

EDBs - where are you? You can U2U me and I'm sure we could hash something out if you decide you want the 8 alone.

Both are currently still available. Also just to clarify both are complete minus manuals and are RTF.

How does the 5 handle Denver's rare and scary high wind (gusty) days?

PS. Where do all you Denver folks fly at? I go to the RMKA meetups and stapleton is my usual. I'd like to get out with some more of you especially as the end of S****Y wind season is approaching.

Hey Propylene22!

The 5.5 and frankly the 8 too are well suited for the area. I've had both in our gusty conditions (worst ever probably 15 gusting to low 30's with 45 degree direction changes) and they perform pretty well. The Apex is a pretty stable kite compared to kites with dramatically higher aspect ratios yet still can really get you LOTS of power for landboarding, buggying or snow kiting. Static flying the 5.5 requires respect in anything over I'd say 15 mph initially but quickly after being able to fly it blind I found them both to be really good kites for moving. Helmet - full pads, gloves and the full 9 yards I use all the time....here there is always some level of gusting and direction changes and better to be protected then not...

Locations:
I live in Westminster and I fly primarily at some great multi-use soccer fields in Westminster and Broomfield area associated with the rec centers. If you'd have any interest in flying either of the Apex's no pressure or just want to meet up to look at them or fly together using one of your kites let me know - always welcome up this way. Proletariat (Dave) has ridden up here a few times with me and it is always cool to fly with someone. I've only had one other kiter show up ever (that wasn't Dave ;). I've kited a few times at Dove Valley but it is a long haul for me. Winter opens up a lot of options.

Sorry for the book-I tend to be TMI in my responses.

Jeff I live in Denver and often commute to Boulder so westminster is not particularly out of the way. I've also flown and done some trading with Dave (I'm Dave also). It would be great to fly with you some time. I've got a couple of Montana's. I'm sure that there are things that I am doing wrong that people would correct if I flew with others. Proletariat thought I was crazy for downlooping on every pass. I can't see how anyone gets moving otherwise.. Anyways lets all get together some time and go fly.

BTW sorry for hijacking your thread.

Hey Propylene/Dave!
No worries about hijack. We should indeed all fly sometime. The biggest field I fly up this way is big enough to handle 3 riders no prob. The Broomfield site I fly is just big enough for 2.

Grounds crews are very nice people and I've always had pleasant experiences with onlookers trying to grasp what the hell exactly I'm doing :)

Gotta throw in my endorsement for Jeff.

Don't let the modded loop turn you away. Apexes really have too much bulk and play at the loop and if you're not 6ft tall or you don't have abnormally long arms, it is much more comfortable with the bar, brake and top-hat safety a couple inches closer to your body.

Not sure if anyone else on this forum will endorse this particular trick, but on a high wind day in the front range, I have found you can open the dirt-outs on the apexes to bring down the maximum power a little. (prevents kite from fully inflating, but I don't know if this causes other unexpected safety risks)

Proletariat, I hope you don't have buyer's remorse over my harness yet.

Hey all -
The modded loops my buddy Yeti mentioned above worked really well for me. I made my own custom tubing coated 3/8 Amsteel chicken loops for these Apex's. I made these the smallest possible loops possible that were still completely functional. This effectively shortened the reach from the harness hook to everything (bar, trim, brake strap, top hat safety) by several inches. My wife and I are NOT tall people :) and especially my wife found the stock reach difficult to significantly sheet out or to change trim settings without leaning over. If you are tall the stocks are probably great.

I put the stock chicken loops back on both kites but if a buyer wants to try the shorter ones too I'll just throw them in a zip lock bag into the top pouch of the kite backpack and include them...hadn't thought about it but someone especially just learning might like the shorter reach initially. Swapping the loops is an easy 30 second job.

As for Proletariat...if I buy one more piece of gear that is the same as his he'll probably get a restraining order. :D we should all meet up and ride soon....assuming there will some day be wind.

Just tell yer ol' lady that if she didn't explicitly witness said spending of money, it is not "true" and therefore you should be able to spend the money that you never spent. :)

Too soon?

Trying to slip another kite into the quiver is something I've tried a few angles on....but Joanna (wife) is WAY too smart and after 17 years she immediately knows when I'm scheming/laying picks trying to rationalize a purchase.

After sort of greasing some skids of rationalizing adding a 7 meter LEI for a trip coming up I told her last week that I was going to buy an Ocean Rodeo Razor...but that after that I probably wasn't going to buy another kite until the end of the year.

She laughed at me telling me that I was making a huge sacrifice - to go 4 months before buying another kite.

I agreed - because if I didn't have such tremendous discipline I could totally see getting a Speed 4. I'd suspect all of our significant others would have all sorts of stories to tell of all of us and our addiction! There is probably a Forum they are all on all the time too....

The 5.5 was Joanna's first depower but it quickly got repurposed for a high wind kite for me. Now Joanna just uses a single other kite and has shot down future purchases under any claim I make that I think SHE really needs it :D

Same way here 3shot - Joanna's first clue is typically a heavy couple of days looking at what she has started calling "Kite-Porn"

Doing some bike maintenance today and found it in my tool box. It is included with the first kite to go.
