How to prevent waist harness from sliding up?
Well I just bought a waist harness after hearing how much better and more comfortable they are than the seat harness. But I'm not sure how to keep it
from sliding up above my waist (mid chest area) when flying. And not that I'm ready to go there yet, but how can anybody possibly jump with these?
It's a Mystic harness, pictures below:

I have the same issue with my waist harness. The only solution I've found is that your waist needs to be smaller than your chest .. lol .. which I'm
working on right now.

I too have found that I don't have a build suitable for a waist harness. Either I need it so tight that I can't breath or I set it loose enough to
breath but then it rotates around and up my body. Seat harness was the only solution for me. You could try adding of 2 leg straps out of webbing
that you loop onto each end of the spreader bar and then slip your legs through as put the harness on (so you form a loop on each side of the spreader
bar). Its kind of ghetto but it would work - might need some padding added to the webbing to protect the jewels.
It would also prevent spreader bar creep.

Thanks guys. I just found this thread here from a previous poster with the same issue. Odd, because I did a search before posting and this didn't show
up.
http://www.powerkiteforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=21545
So it sounds like I may be going back to a seat harness. Bummer. Thanks for the recommendation B-Roc. I too was trying to think of a way to rig a seat
to the harness. I'll have to give that some thought.

Try cinching it up so tight that you can't breath. It feels uncomfortable at first but you get used to it.
I have the same issue with my Dakine harness. I use a Mystic combination harness but end up just loosening the leg straps, not taking them off.

If you have the $$dough$$ I highly recommend getting two harnesses....
One for buggy....seat harness PL Divine...will not ride up and will not pinch you off
Dakine Fusion......stand up...ski/static
(there are a ton of personal choices on this one ^^^^ but the Divine for buggy can't be touched for comfort)

@ Bladerunner
I tried that, but can't understand why anybody would want to sacrifice comfort when they could just use a different type of harness. I have a very
comfortable seat harness, but it has a wheel instead of a hook. I placed a wanted post here to see if anybody knows where I can get a hook type bar to fit.
@BEC
Is it possible there would be that much difference between mine and the Fusion waist harness? I don't want to buy it and then find it is the same way
as this.

I've had a fusion since 2006. Love it. Would replace it with another without a thought. FWIW I'm a size 31 waist but I wear a large fusion. I
think that says its for a size 34-36 but I just tighten the waist strap and leave the legs loose. It never goes anywhere and doesn't crush anything.

Mood: More kiting !!!
|

As you progress you will want to start using waist harness .... It makes whole world difference when you start jumping and need to twist your body
to make safe landing .... Seat harness will stop your progression at some point ..... Now .... I did have same issues as everyone who start
kiteboarding .... harness riding up is a nightmare ..... so .... what to do ??? ..... As posted by bladerunner .... squeeze every inch that is
possible when putting harness on ..... after few minutes of riding it will get comfortable .... make sure you are not riding with poo stance .....
make sure you body is straight and harness is being pulled away from you ..... not up ..... when not kiting keep your kite to the side of wind
window .... not at zenith .... that also is so much safer when using kite in overpowered conditions .... At this moment I am able to ride all day
long with loose harness and keep it at right place ..... its all about finding your own technique ..... I was using Mystic Worrior II for last few
years and recently upgraded to Ion Apex ... big difference .... waist velcro strap on Ion is so powerful and big that holds whole harness in place
without any issues ..... back support is non slip material for maximum grip ..... 3 straps on each side to keep spreader bar from moving .... that
all helps a lot ...... then .... there are waist harnesses made with back support that slips ... specially for wave riding or people who like to
ride a lot toe side or blind .... those harnesses are not staying in place and riders are able to use them without ride up issue .... its all about
what you like and your skills ..... and no .... I am not slim person .... my beer muscle is very nicely rounded ....
don't give up on waist harness ...... good luck ...

There are three ways:
1. keep lower strap (goes through the bottom of the hook) attached and moderately tight
2. ride more, stand static less
3. keep your abs in smaller size than your chest - having an actiual waist is a good prerequisite for a waist harness

If I understand the previous post correctly, You have the upper strap and the lower strap.
If you tighten the lower strap more that the upper strap, you'll create a V type channel which should lock in against your lower ribs.

Oh I understand. But that's my seat harness and I don't have this problem with that harness. Only my waist harness pictured in my original post has

Does your waist harness (Mystic Shadow?) have an upper and lower strap or just one big honkin' strap.

The lower strap could be seen on the second picture. But it shouldn't be more tight than the upper strap - it's not designed to hold too much tension,
only moderately tight.

Yes it has the lower strap as well, but it doesn't feel like that strap has much if any effect. Good to know to keep it looser than the main. Also
great guess on the model - it is indeed the Mystic Shadow.

Lean back against the harness more. I can usually ride with a waist just fine, until I crash then it ends up in my armpits... I prefer the seat for
overpowered boosting, the waist for "surfing".
Mystic has a product called Strappies that should, in theory, turn any waist harness into a hybrid like the OR Session. Other option is a waist/seat
like the Mystic Star...
Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

I have a spreader bar pad as pictured in the video and it helped for sure but ultimately I replaced that with a pivoting spreader bar and it works way
better than the standard hammerhead bar and pad. The hook can pivot up and down which prevents the kite from torqueing the bar up your chest. You
may want to consider a pivoting bar.

Many people are saying that I simply need to make the harness tighter. If it's tight enough to not slide up on me, how will I be able to twist my body
inside the harness to make a safe landing? Likely part of my problem is that I'm so slim.
I may have to check out those strappies. Wonder if I could make my own...probably not worth the time.
