New to flying, looking for advice
Hey all,
I just got into flying this summer. Picked up a Prism 1.9 and I love it! It's a lot of fun but I want something with some pull. Should I progress up
slowly to like a 2m+ or jump up to a 3m+? The guy at the store when I got the 1.9 insisted that I should start out slow and move up, he had a Prism
2.5 but talked me out of it.
I live in Maryland and have OK wind, I got the 1.9 at the beach in Delaware. I have about an acre of land I can fly on and 2 parks near by. So far
flying at home has been pretty good but would a bigger kite do well in that small an area?
I would be interested in buying a used kite here. I checked the for sale section but a lot of the posts in my price range have already sold. Does
anyone have or can recommend a used 2m + kite for around $100 US?
Thanks in advance!!

Stuntfoils, like your snapshot are sized differently than power kites. Here is a picture of a snapshot 2.5 and a 3 meter hq beamer. I would look for
something in the 3 meter size.

Stick to 3m and below when starting out. Most of the good ones will be $250 and up for power kites. you could possibly find a used one here. Ozone
Quattro, Peter Lynn Hornet, HQ Beamer would be 3 to look for.
your shop owner should be able to help you out. He already gives good advice.

As Mike said, its good to start in the 2-3m range,... I personally think 3m is better. It gives you a good pull, but isn't difficult to get flying (as
a 2m can be in light wind) nor is it overbearing (as something bigger might be), and when your skills advance, it becomes your high wind kite and the
one you hand over to friends when they want to give it a try.
You might be able to find a good starter in the for sale section here, but you may have to wait and be patient and watch, that or post in the wanted
section. The best starters are HQ Beamer, Peter Lynn Hornet, Flexifoil Sting or Rage, and the PKD Buster Soulfly.
If you don't mind stretching your budget to the $100-$200 range, then you should be able to get a New 3.3m PKD Buster Soulfly for under $200 (I think
somewhere around $189) and you will be getting a top quality NEW kite for an awesome price.
Good luck and welcome aboard
I'm going to take a nap now

Diggity,
I work in Baltimore and live on the Eastern Shore. Send me a U2U if you want to meet up, you're welcome to try any of my kites. Coincidently, I have
the same 3m Beamer that SSayre posted in his pic.

Thanks for the great suggestions guys! Definitely going to look into the 3.3m PKD Buster Soulfly. $200 for a new RTF kite is not bad. Thanks for the
clarification ssayer! I knew a stunt foil was not the same as a power kite but I didn't know the sizing was that different.
Where do you fly at frankiter? I actually live near Bel Air. I would love to try whatever you care to show me!

Bel Air to Easton is a little bit of a haul. Like I said in the U2U, maybe a meet up in Smyrna with the ECKS team. I'm overdue for that anyway...

Hey Diggity,
I live in Baltimore, actually right downtown. I normally fly at Patterson Park but it is only ok (lots of trees and people). I have yet to try out
Ft McHenry but it's another spot near me that looks decent with the right wind.
I'd be down to meet up some time to fly, I'm still relatively new to the sport myself.

Hey D, welcome to the nuthatch:P
In April make it to WWBB, you won't be disappointed (unless you don't go). You will be able to learn a ton and I'm sure my Brothers and Sisters would
share some gear as would I.
And for $50-$60 more you could get a PKD Buster Soulfly. Not only do they look awesome, they are great kites. They are built very well and almost
indestructible. Jeff (the owner of Bigkid kites) lets his grandson TRY to kill them on purpose. And as I recall, he failed in blowing them out. All I
fly now are PKDs. And it's not because I'm sponsored by him. Heck, in January my sponsorship is up. And I will still fly PKDs. They are that good!
I like them so much, I have a tribal "soulfly" tattoo on my leg.:o

You definitely want to hook up with Frankiter and Rich / Shehatesmyhobbies. A day with them will teach you more that you can figure out on your own in
ways you can't imagine yet. Besides getting to see / use a whole batch of gear they will help you progress in your flying greatly. Having the chance
to use a buggy or mountain board is priceless. Go out of your way to make this happen!
The 3.3 Buster is a great deal for the money. Used cost almost as much and I really like the tribal graphics. It is tame enough that it makes a great
high wind ( down the road ). Powerful enough to give you big thrills and a real engine for moving.
