I picked up one from BigKid and it is my choice kite to put in my beginner friends hands and will still treat me well in the buggy. It's been well
punished in the relatively short time I've had it and still flies as new. Should take you a long way.... It's one of those kites I don't think I'll
ever sell.

Sweet. If I hadn't found this forum I probably would have started with a much larger kite. Could have been some carnage.

Many others who find this site are still convinced they can start with something bigger ... Even after we tell them differently... Good for you for
being sensible and paying attention to good counsel!
Good luck, and good winds!

Thanks for the welcome. We don't get much wind here in Fairbanks, but there are some frozen lakes and decent hills within 30 minutes that get some
steady wind. Now if it would just get here.

Thanks Big Mike, that was quick. The worst part of living in Fairbanks (besides the cold) is waiting for stuff to get here when it's shipped.

Thanks for all the thumbs up. I had a hard time choosing between the Beamer, the Hornet, and the Octane. Finally just picked one. Unfortunately,
because I'm an idiot, I'm already trying to decide which kite I will buy next. Wifey's gonna be mad.

also consider a postal box

Dude, I'm a relative newbie though took a long break from kiting when I had kids. Back into it now and totally addicted. It's bad. I need
professional help. Soon you will too by the sounds of things!
My wife thinks I have 2 kites...a Peter Lynn Venom 13m which I had for years but am too scared to fly, and a 3m Twister, similar to your Hornet I
think.
However, in the back of my car I've also got a 2 line trainer kite on a bar, a Peter Lynn Synergy 15m which I couldn't resist but am even more scared
to fly, a Revolution Quad stunt kite, a little 1.5m Peter Lynn Pepper which I intend to use to teach my kids to fly a 4 line kite. Oh, and a
landboard. And a harness. My wife knows nothing of that lot in the car.
And I've just ordered a brand new Flysurfer Peak 6m after speaking with some of the guys on this forum and doing a lot of research. My wife doesn't
know about this one either....!

Looks like the key to marital bliss is having a car with a large trunk to hide my purchases. I haven't received my first one yet and I've caught
myself looking for my next kite after watching too many YouTube videos. I'm stuck up on the slope right now where the wind blows constantly, but I'm
sure as soon as I'm back home and I have the kite in my hands there will be no wind to speak of.

That's called "the new kite curse". It is included with every new kite purchase, but is not advertised in the package.

My new kite was waiting for me when I got back from the slope. Thanks BigMike. One thing I did not anticipate, the wife seems excited to try it out.
May not have to hide my purchases from her after all. :D. I know none of you are excited to see a 3M kite fly, but I'm gonna post some pics anyway.

Finally got to fly my new kite. Wind was supposed to be about 12-15 miles an hour, little higher than I would have liked, but really fun. Having
trouble posting some pics, but I'm still working on it. Also have a very grainy video of me getting yanked around pretty hard for anyone who thinks
they want to start with a 5 meter.

So I got a picture to load as my avatar. its one of those perfect days without a cloud in the sky. This is towards the top of Murphy Dome at about
2500 feet or so. There's usually pretty steady wind there. We had trouble at first because the brake lines were crossed when I set it up according
to the numbers on the lines, but after we straightened them out things got better. This kite still got crashed a lot, but I can't see any damage.

Congrats on your first flight!!!... I think you don't have to start hiding your purchases until after your 3rd kite... My wife was excited about my
first one too... Now it's "...and why do you NEED another... What does this one do that the others don't?"... Or "I thought you said you weren't
intersted in depower?!?"
To post pics it's best to put your pictures on a hosting site like photo bucket or Flickr... Use the "post reply" button rather than the quick post
field at the end of the thread... Once you are in that field there is a little icon that looks like a picture of a sun rising over a mountain... When
you click that icon, enter the web address of the specific picture you want to share ... When you press ok, it will look something like this:

That will make your picture magically appear...
Good luck and keep sharing!
I'm going to take a nap now

Congrats on the maiden flight. Yes, we love pics. I've always heard its not the size of your kite, but how you fly it

Awesome. Thanks for your help and the sage marital advice. I'm pretty surprised at the power that came from this "little" kite. I've done some
sailing and filling this kite with wind gave me the same rush that running downwind in a Hobie Cat gives. Pretty hooked.
